GP Waco?
Iwas looking at Towers "just announced" page and saw this:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LNAAVT&P=G No pictures or details but I definitely like bipes and planes from that era. |
RE: GP Waco?
Looks like there is a video link though. Now if only my broadband connection would stop behaving like dial-up I could watch it.
|
RE: GP Waco?
Oooh! Can't wait to see the color scheme
|
RE: GP Waco?
I want one!
|
RE: GP Waco?
ORIGINAL: MinnFlyer Oooh! Can't wait to see the color scheme I think this might have to go on my list of wants. It should be perfect with a little 20-30cc gas engine. Now if they will just do a Stinson Reliant... |
RE: GP Waco?
Yea, I got the video to work too.
I LIKE! |
RE: GP Waco?
Imight have to order this one now.
|

RE: GP Waco?
The WACO YMF-3 and YMF-5 is the most beautiful biplane to ever sprout wings!
I bet $10 this is the Cox ARF. Cox bought Pica, and for awhile sold a 1.20 and a .60 size ARF of the Pica kit. Then Hobbico bought out Cox. I campaigned Hobbico to revive this ARF so you can thank me very much. On the other hand, after nearly five years of hoping to find one of these beauties, I gave up. I finally located a very old Pica kit of the .60 size, and commissioned Bill Phillips in North Carolina to build the airframe for me. I'm now finishing it out. I can't say I wish I had waited because the model that Bill built for me has some re-engineering in it that will make it superior to any ARF. Even so . . . . . By the way, there's an ENORMOUS thread on this model and other WACOs: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_40..._1/key_/tm.htm Mike |
RE: GP Waco?
That's a pretty nice looking new ARF. Perfect for the new Saito 200 radial. :D

RE: GP Waco?

RE: GP Waco?
GP is being very tight-lipped about it until after the AMA Show in LA next month.
|
RE: GP Waco?
Minnflyer,
Are you the odds-on favorite to get the first one for a review?!?!? |
RE: GP Waco?
Well, I put in a request for it, but it all depends on how the cards fall.
|
RE: GP Waco?
WHAT !! OH MY GOSH !! FINALLY !! AFTER ALL THESE YEARS !!. And this should be a top-quality ARF , no doubt !. what are we looking at price-wise ? $400-$500 maybe more or possibly less ? You bet, I'll order one....... or two. MM
|
RE: GP Waco?
The price tag says, $479.99

Ok Chuck, if you get there we want a full report!

RE: GP Waco?
I'll see. It seems like there is always something else I am obligated to do during that weekend. The club has a bus chartered to go down but I think it is on a weekday so I can't do that. I will have to drive down on Saturday if I go.
How come RCU doesn't send some of you guys out to cover it? |

RE: GP Waco?
One of these days I would like to make it to the Toledo show. I'll see if I make it to the AMA. Maybe get up really early on Saturday morning, drive down and be home late that evening.

RE: GP Waco?
Be still my beating heart!! [X(]
Another GP Bipe I gotta get! I already have the P-6E and it's one of my favorite planes. The Waco would just be icing on the cake if I add it to my biplane stable which currently includes the Top Flight Staggerwing, GP P-6E, and the E-Flite PT-17e. Now I just gotta convince the controller of the check book.;) |
RE: GP Waco?
It looks better than the picca model...
My only wish would have been....Make it bigger.. Bigger cowl, means more options in engine department... Even a 30cc will hack the cowl up with a side muffler.. |
RE: GP Waco?
If your name is'nt on the order list yet, you may be on the waiting list for the next shipment. Can you guys imagine all the personal color schemes that are going to be applied to this one. I hope GP has the common sense to make this one a long production run. If it is the old Pica one, doubtless this has been cleaned up by GP. MM
|
RE: GP Waco?
Apparently it's the old Cox 72" WACO. If so, I sure hope they've fixed the main and tail gear and wheel pant attachment. Other than that, Cox had a great thing going.
|
RE: GP Waco?
I'm willing to bet it's along the lines of their Super Stearman. Pretty stout design. Gads, I can hardly wait for this one. MM
|
RE: GP Waco?
Well, the video says it uses Fiberglass landing gear and struts. If these are the same as the FG gear they have been using on some of their later models (and I see no reason why they wouldn't be) they should be outstanding. I've used them on a few of their newer planes and I love them!
As for the size, a 30cc gasser would be too much - but it just might be ideal for some of the new 20cc engines out there. |
RE: GP Waco?
They show a DLE-30 in the video but that does seem liek a lot for the type of airplane that it is. I am leaning toward the DLE-20 or soemthing else in the 20-26cc range.
|
RE: GP Waco?
DLE 20 would be a great choice for the Waco.
|
RE: GP Waco?
I stand corrected. The last time I looked at the video it was having some problems streaming and I never got to that part. I only saw the forst engine pic and thought it was an OS 91

RE: GP Waco?
It has nothing to do with any previous designs. BRAND NEW!!!

RE: GP Waco?
Very nice. Might be my first bipe [8D]

RE: GP Waco?
I could be wrong but it looks like the expected arrival date moved up a little on the Tower Hobbies site. I better get some space cleared in the garage.
