Thank you airboss45. I have some good news, the WACO was flying again today.
Idid have a problem with the fuel tank that required to disassemble it, so it was the "one" 10 minutes flight (with two take-off's and landings). I also think that it performs worse with the Master Airscrew 16x6 then the APC 15x8. I will give it another go next time before I change the prop again.
Unfortunately no video as we were too busy trying to figure out the fuel problem before the flight and I completely forgot about it when we finally got it going...

Ihave placed couple of videos on youtube, taken on 1/1/2012, after resolving the fuel tank issue.

Later in the day after failing to tune the engine we replaced the prop to APC 15x8. From that moment the engine worked well, which brought us to the conclusion that the Master Airscrew 16x6 was too much prop for this engine.

Also I found out that I was constantly running out off elevator authority when slowing for landing touchdown. I have increased the throw and the problem is now resolved. You will see some not so perfect landings in the video, I am happy to say that the landing gear fix hold up well

I have noticed on my GP Waco that the elevator halves if lined up with the front of the stab, do not register
the same height at the rear of the stab. Anyone else have this problem? To get the same height at the rear
I have to have one elevator have above the stab and one below or almost even with the stab. My question
is will it have adverse effect on flight characteristics with the front of the elevator halves being uneven?

Iam not sure that Ifully understood your alignment issue.
While it was not easy to get the stab into position, it did end up aligned, also if Iremember correctly, I had to hold it (force it) in place with masking tape while the Epoxy set.
Itook some more photos which I hope will allow you to compare.

Maidened mine today,its powered by a Thunder Tiger 130 4 stroke that has a OS120 flex pipe. Had to have a coupler made up to suit the thread at the exhaust end.Flys great ,I'm running a 16x8 to break it in and will go to a 17x6,and then maybe a 18x8 later on.I added my own registration on the fuse and under the wing.Got 2 flights in today and it was flying so nice I decided to do some low and slow passes...I still have some idle issues but once shes broken in it'll be fine.These bipes fly nice don't they..

Steve, Great job and awesome pictures. I have not flown my Waco for a while but they do fly great. Now after seeing your pic's I am getting it down from the hook and charge it up. Mine has a Dle 20 running a 16/8 Zoar prop.

I just came back from the airfield, flying my WACO. Now that the SAITO FG-20 is sorted I really enjoy the aeroplane.
The only thing Ido not like about it is that Ifind it almost impossible to land it with the engine on. It floats forever with the engine on and the airfield is not long enough http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ular_smile.gif

The enjoyment from the SAITOFG-20 was short lived. The engine keeps playing up and impossible to tune.
So, the SAITOwas taken out and I am in the process of installing MVVS30 IFS/RC (Slant Plug) - http://www.mvvs.cz/mvvs_30e.html
This engine was originally planned for my Fliteskin 1/5 scale Me-109, but I will have to buy another one for it.
The engine is equipped with the MVVS back plate radial mount 3394 and I used 50mm stand-offs to get the correct clearance from the firewall.
I also added a Bisson muffler.
If the 40cc MVVS Ialready have is an indication for what I am in for, then I am for some reliable and powerful operation (at last).

Erans, That engine looks like a perfect fit. Since you are already familar with the the engine, you should have a great adventure with the Waco now. You are right on the floating. I have my idle set as low as I can get it and just ldle it on the downwind and cross wind and final and I get some good landings. Got to get mine charged and fly it more. It is 100* everyday now in Oklahoma City so we are fighting heat/enjoyment. I love air conditioning!!!!!!!

cannonball200 - I like the way the WACOfly. It is so different to my other aeroplane (The Great Planes SU-31 with MVVS40cc)

Lifer - Iam quite sure that MVVSis sold under the Evolution name in the USAwith blue colour trim instead of red.
If you want to be sure and get the MVVSbranded engine, just search on the net for oversees site that will ship it to the US.
MVVS has a good site in the Netherlands (http://mvvs.nl/), and maybe even the Australian distributor will send it to you (http://modelaviation.com.au/catalog/...amp;cPath=3_59)

I am absolutely sold on these engines.

Finally got back to it, and installed the ignition and the fuel system.

The "cuts" to the WACO fibreglass front section (body side) you see in the photo are from the previous engine carburettor access requirements.

Iwill fly the aeroplane without the cowl for a bit to make sure everything is good.

Erans, not that you will need more power but I have the same muffler on and Evolution 35GT in a GP Super chipmunk and I cut off the ends of both pipes. The part where it curls in. It made is louder but gave more power. I have the Waco with a DLE30 and I can 3D it if i wanted to. It is a nice flying plane. it does not like cross winds but overall is my favorite plane in the hangar.:D

Hi skillet92, I had already 34 flights with the WACOfitted with the SAITO FG-20. It is fun aeroplane, I like it as well.

kinda off the topic but how did you like the saito? I am interested in getting a saito gas engine. I love the Idea of a 4stroke gas.

When it worked, it was a lovely engine. However, Ifound it very unreliable, constantly required re-tuning of the high end.
It is a very common issue for this specific engine (The FG-20) and much is written on it in different forums.
After very long battle with it, I had enough and this is why Ireplaced it with the MVVS.

One only other thing is the power. Iwill rate this engine as a ~1.10 and not a ~1.20 engine.

Because Ido like the engine (the sound is fantastic), Ididn't give up and I asked a friend to modify it to take Walbro carburettor.
Few people on the net did it and reported that it solved the problem.
Ithink that this engine was victim of too small and fiddly carburettor (the original which is similar to glow fuel carburettor).

Final note on the MVVS 30 install.
I run it for 10 minutes on the ground and then took the WACO for couple of 10 minutes flights.
Just awesome. Plenty of power with the 18x8 laminated wood prop.

Hi all I just picked up my first Waco today. I want to run the DLE20 in it, with the fuel tank that comes with the kit what is the average flight time with it? I would like to make the fuel tank a little smaller and add a smoke tank if it will not take to much out of my flying time. With the DLE20 mounted inverted will I have to cut up any of the cowl sides or top?

Mark, I don't remember what size tank came with the Waco, but I have a DLE20 in a Top Flite Mustang. I am using an 8 oz tank and fly for 10 minutes at 1/2 to full throttle. I never have ran out. Always have couple ozs left. I have the DLE 30 in my Waco and just had to cut the cowl on the bottom. I used a jtech wrap around muffler.

I have a DLE 20 /Jtech muffler cessna 195 style muffler on mine. It all fits really good. It flys the Waco with plenty of power. You will like it. Jtech makes an Aero Works Cessna 195 muffler for a Dle 30, so I called Jtech and he made some for the Dle 20 same style. A very good fit for the Waco.

Thanks for the fuel est. the tank size is about 6-1/4 x 3 x 2-1/2 so about a 16-18oz tank. I was thinking putting smoke on it. I like the J'TEC Radiowave Custom Wrap Around Pitts DLE 20cc think you could drill and tap a smoke inlet on the fron of it for the smoke? If i cut the tank down to 12 oz or so and put a 6oz smoke tank in it should not affect the ballance to much. what do you guys think?

Finally going to be starting my Waco this week. Dle 30 for power, stock muffler. Definitely feeling this is alot of motor for the plane, it its what I had in the shop though.

The DLE30 will provide you with endless amount of power.

I am flying my WACO with the MVVS 30 and take off run, if you gun it, 30cm...
The "problem" is the torque, swinging the aeroplane the moment the tail is up (instantly), but once the wheels are off the ground you have full rudder control back.
You can obviously do a slow gentle take off...
Vertical climb is unbelievable, snap rolls are crazy, huge fun.

Been working on mine this, up to the engine install, so far everything is going together real well. I am a bit disappointed in some areas of the covering, it's a bit rough here and there the wing tips especially.

Mine came with a couple of broken stringers on the bottom of the fuse. Tower shipped me a roll of monokote for the repairs I have to make and wouldn't you know, there is a pretty decent variation in the colors. Stinks.
