vector flight edge questions
 

a couple questions for you guys with the vector flight edge. i'm no build expert but i have put together a goldberg ultimate kit and a couple of electric ARF's. rather than figure it out for myself how did you guys mount your fuel tank. and did you use any right or down thrust when you mounted your engine? i'm installing a saito 1.00. the plane looks great and can't wait to get it in the air. i'd appreciate any other build tips and suggestions you might have. i know it's not a beginners airplane but you'd think being a ARF it would have a little better instruction manual. oh another thing did you use the CA hinges that came with it? :stupid:

Hi,

I used 2 degrees down and 2 degrees right when I first flew mine, and found that the downthrust wasn't necessary, so reduced it to zero, keeping 1 degree of right thrust. That seems about right.

I used Robart hinges which work well.

It's a great flier, and is incredibly pitch sensitive, so only the slightest elevator movement is adequate, (I used 30% on my dual rate for the elevator) and stops it snapping in a loop.

Beautiful take offs and the selection of the prop seems fairly critical. On a YS 110, a 15x10 makes mine far too fast, and doesn't provide enough braking on landing where a 16x6 is the exact opposite!

It should fly well with a Saito 100.

I built mine with no engine offset at all, and it flys great. I also used the CA hinges, just added a couple of extra here and there. Yes, the instruction/assembly manual does leave a little to be desired, but if you take your time, and go through the manual a few times before starting, it makes things go much easier. And if in doubt about anything, call or e-mail Vector Flight. They'd be glad to help you. Believe me, you'll never deal with a better customer oriented company! :D
