RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
Well, this winter, I plan on losing some more weight! I plan to do LOTS of walking on a treadmill (while I catch up on my favorite TV shows on Netflix), plus walk 3 nights a week with my buddy Minnflyer! Beyond that, I'm not sure yet... My other new-found hobby is Golf,, so I can't fall back on THAT one in the Minnesota winters! [:@]
Perhaps I'll just have to find something I CAN do in the winter time! |
RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
i fly year round...winters in deep south texas are quite mild..... the summer is the time of the year where ill skip an occasional weekend of flying to beat the heat....... thank God the peak is gone, and the days of 100 degree plus temperature are gone till at least may or so

RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
Oh come on sissies, I fly in 100 degrees or 50 degrees. When I have time I fly.
If it is hot, shed some clothing, if it is cold put some cloth on, BUT GO FLY |

Yeah, I fly incold weathertoo, but not much below 30 deg F. I've been known to sit in my truck with the tx stuck out the window toflywhen it's cold. But whenIcan'tkeep sight of my plane for wiping thesweat from my eyes, it's time to put up theplanes and get out the ski boat.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif

RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
Freeze. Minnflyer, we get more snow than you. I'm just east in the Tug Hill Region and we get all the lake effect. My wife has a picture from 2 years ago when the snow reached near the wires on a local telephone pole. A marker was placed right where the level was. I'll ask for the picture when she gets up. Also our temps like to reach 20-24*- in Febuary on average. It gets so cold I get snotceicals.

RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
Fly !:D we are very spoilt here & pretty much fly all year round, in fact winter is the best flying period as it's not to hot ( only gets to the low 20's Deg C).
But as great as that sounds it does have it's down side [:o], I reached the point about three weeks ago where I had to ground most of my planes as there was to much flying & not enough maintainence, those small issues where starting to develop & it was only a matter of time before I lost one to failure in some shape or form. It also makes getting those builds on the table frustrating to finish as with the flying/cleaning & repairs they are constantly pushed back. Still who am I to complain LOTS OF FLYING !!.;) |

RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
Well, for what I saw in this thread, this winter ARF's builders will:
a) Make fun of the builders on the forum b) Make fun of people that do not fly electrics c) Drink beer and d) Talk like parrots about ARFs that still did not get to the market (just announced) and in page number 458 of such thread, someone will ask the size of the cowling to see if a Moki radial will fit this .90 model that will arrive soon... And maybe, just maybe if things are getting boring in the dark, short days and low temperatures, they will start various threads asking if Futaba is really better than RJ, just to stir things up, because we know it is:-) Gerry |

Those poor still "WORKING" stiffs or retired and not smart enough to head to the far South or South West. Well They think it's great fun when the temp climbs to 32 F and wind is below 10mph They head for a frozen Lake and pretend they are having "FUN" flying on skis or floats on the "SNOW". They also try to convince them selves that they are having fun (1 nite a week for 3 hrs) in a gym, flying some $200 peace of Junk. That is untill a "Helichopper" comes along and shreds their $200 flying napkin. My self I pack up my "Real Models" and head for warmer weather in a place called Apache Junction.

RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
Here in the Great Northwest, we do get a fews days that we can fly, but for me, I will re-stock my fuel locker for next year, put together the 3 arf's I have in the shop. Buy more kits and arfs. So untill the rain and snow come, I will be flying!! Also if we get the snow like the weatherman is calling for, I will take out the heli's and have some fun. Got to us my Tx glove sometime!!!:D:D

RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
I look forward to "winter", as "winter" in Florida means the heat has died down a bit and a cold wave has arrived for a few days. Would probably fly more than put boats in the water when it gets to the 60's and 70's.
If I was up in NJ, I would take my air boat and run it on the snow. That would be fun. |

RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
I fly almost any day the wind is not over 5mph. Sometimes the wind chill here in Arizona can be real nasty. We do have a burn barrel if the hands get a little cool. Flying was one of my main reasons I headed south when I retired.
