RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
I am a builder with no interest in ARFs, but the season of the year has little impact on when I build. I have many interests/hobbies other than modeling so I am able to find something to keep me occupied regardless of the weather. I just need more time:).
Easy for you to say, considered where you live...:-) Besides, honestly, I was kidding... Well maybe not abut the beer... Gerry
I am lucky to live in a place I can fly year round. My apologies. |

RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
ORIGINAL: GerKonig Well, for what I saw in this thread, this winter ARF's builders will: a) Make fun of the builders on the forum b) Make fun of people that do not fly electrics c) Drink beer and d) Talk like parrots about ARFs that still did not get to the market (just announced) and in page number 458 of such thread, someone will ask the size of the cowling to see if a Moki radial will fit this .90 model that will arrive soon... And maybe, just maybe if things are getting boring in the dark, short days and low temperatures, they will start various threads asking if Futaba is really better than RJ, just to stir things up, because we know it is:-) Gerry So true. LOL! But us JR guys know Futaba is only better in one way, that way is because they are made for homeless people so they can afford them. :D ORIGINAL: ARUP Hound arf manufacturers to make another Extra except this time in 1/3.58149 scale? That's right! And we need more ARF Yak's, Edges, Ultimate, P-51's, P-47's, Cubs and Corsairs in 1/3.58149 scale as well. Have you forgotten? And they need to charge us $2,000 for it. Heck, another $4,000 on top of it I could buy a used full scale. Pete |

Where do birds go for the winter? Where do flowers hide? Where do critters hide? Where does the green in grass go? Where do bikinis go?
...so much to think about , oops, just lost a min pondering on these thoughts, gotta get back to building the arf. |

RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
ORIGINAL: ARUP Hound arf manufacturers to make another Extra except this time in 1/3.58149 scale? That's what I am talking about! Maybe Top File can come out with another Corsair, a little bigger than the new ARF, and also way overpriced like the current one... Tnere are not enough P-51, we need .22 scale (a bit over 1/5). We might also have some scale slots available for cubs... Gerry |

I'll stick to the north where the worst thing we have is mosquitoes! :D Yes but your mosquitoes are so big, some people are teaching them to bark, and save money in dog food... Others are training them to do the food shopping or fetch beer from the fridge. Besides, alligators are cool, even their blood is cold. Yes, they are cold blooded creatures. Besides, they have an enchanting smile:-) Gerry |

RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
When I retired, I decided the ONLY ice I needed in the winter was in my Margaritas! I would haul all my plane stuff to Florida & build & do a little fishing. After about 4 yrs (been going for 12 yrs), I decided that fishing & beer went together. No more RC in Florida. Besides, I don't get to see any "bikini babes" in the shop !! I do a lot of fishing along the public beach.

JR is good. I took out the retracts in my plane, and was able to squeeze in 4 more receivers in the wheel wells, right next to the 4 battery backup systems and the computerized, radar/satellite controlled power box... Plus the remote data stream transmitter sends all the info to my laptop, so after the crash, I know can analyze the data and know what happened... All they really need is include a "Crash in imminent" display that blinks in the transmitter to give the pilot on the ground time to put on his/her WWII helmet just in time, before the impact. RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
Well my dad and I fly most of the winter , there is also indoor flight and skis to put on our planes .We fly year round .

RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
We shovel snow oout off the driveway and off the sidewalks, cuddle up next to the wife or girl friend by a warm fire with a suitable adult beverage, and watch good movies. When that loses it's luster (almost never happens but...) we fly a simulator. About a month or so before flying season we start ordering up parts for the next plane we might have in mind. Since we know we can get the next plane together in a couple weeks or less of evenings we worry about a new plane shortly before flying season.

RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
I look forward to swap meets!!! That way I can walk around and find something I need (want) LOL.
Been down to Perry GA for the swap meet there. I was like a kid in a candy store! I had a great time there! I also build, repair, cycle batteries, and do a real good inspection on each and every plane. I build all year long so I always have something on boards. Lots of rain in spring and plenty of windy days even in summer. I am hoping to start next season with four GAS planes. One I have been flying for two years now. Two are almost complete and parts are on the way for the fourth. Plus all my glow and electrics. |
RE: What do the ARF guys do in winter?
Outdoorhunting No more RC in Florida. Besides, I don't get to see any "bikini babes" in the shop !! I do a lot of fishing along the public beach. Get a Seaplane and fly that at a public beach. It's better than taking a kitten or puppy to the shopping mall. Believe me, I had bikini babes come up to me in amazement. (some had kids, kids got excited and brought their Moms) Then I pretend I have money because the public thinks you need a lot of money to be in this hobby. It's kind of like sucking the gut in when a good looking girl walks by. But like babes on the wall, or girls on the beach- I still can't touch. Because if I do, I have a wife that will beat me on the head with a frying pan. Oh, com on now, be nice. JR is good. Gerry Yea, and Futaba doesn't do that. When the economy was good, all I ever saw was JR at the fields, except when I visited a friend at his local soup kitchen. There they had nothing but Futaba's. Now with Americas economy the way it is, all I've been seeing at the fields now are Futaba. It's so bad that I have to take my JR radio box, JR chair, T-shirt and hat and get set up at the other end of the field. I'm the only red spot at some of these shows and I'm afraid that Model Aviation might one day have my picture in the Mag because I stuck out the most that day. :D But that's OK, there is hope for you Futaba guys when your ready to be productive members of this sociaty again. It's called Hitec. :D LOL! Pete |

Futaba = Fabulous, Utterly Teriffic And Bad *****
JR = Junk Radio Spektrum = Suspicious Poltergiest Electrons Keep Taking Radio Under Manipulation :D |
