After "blasting" most of tthe lead shot off the top of the engine box, here's what it looks like.

And more importantly, here's how it balances at the "CORRECTED" CG point

Test flights went well yesterday despite the 15-20MPG gusts. It handles great but needs a lot of down trim as seen in the viseo. I nay shim up the LEof the stab.

Hi Dick,

The Moth looks great. Is it just about right with the 20cc two stroke?

I was considering a Saito four stroke gas motor. Do you think a 20cc (1.25) four stroke would be enough power, or would you use the FG-30, 30cc (1.80), if you had a choice?

I've been flying a Dymond 72" Moth ARF for years(OS 91 four stroke)...it balances just in front of the aft edge of the center fuel tank, but it too likes to climb...probably a decalage issue....

I am using a 26cc gas engine, Evo 26. Perfect choice since the kit was designed around it. A lighter4 cycle will definitely need some nose weight to balance. Other engines may require chopping up the cowl even more

couple of questions. With the Evo 26 did you use straight plug or the slant plug version?

Which muffler? Wrap around Pitts?

I'm actually going to use a MVVS 30 which is same dimensions etc. Not sure if the Evo pitts muffler would fit it or not.

Slant plug on EVO 26 and used the EVO wrap-around Pitts muffler.

The Evo 26 has the carb in front like a glow engine and uses a standard beam mount like a glow engine

sames as the MVVS 30, carb at front and beam mounts. It is same dimesions as MVVS 26 and Evo 26. I can get similar MVVS pitts muffler. Some pics I have seen guys are using the slant plug versions, others the straight. From what I hear slant is a little less power but with 30cc who cares?

Another question. If the stright plug version is used would it be enclosed or would it poke out the bottom of the cowl? I can get stright plug MVVS 30 a fair bit cheaper.

Oz, I am about the same place as you are. Noticed some more errors on the instructions they omit to tell you to bolt the rudder fin, you have to figure that out yourself after you put the stab on and realize it has to come back off and you dont know which bolts go to it. Also, I got socket head 3x30mm bolts with my hardware for the stab instead of button head I dont like it so I will change them out.

Other than that the plane is going nicely and fairly decent. Quality of the engine box is not great, not too strong looking and it looks like a third grader painted it (well, that is probably true in china) but not quite as nice as normal H9 quality so far is what I have seen with this kit...its ok no major complaints but just not as good as I am used to with H9 quality.

Pettit...please go back to your picture of the engine after you took the ballast off. The tie wrap around the bolt holding the fuel line is a disaster waiting to happen, believe me I know from experience. If that unhooks from the bolt the fuel line will drop down on the muffler and melt almost instantly, giving you a dead stick. I made a similar mistake on my first gassers not realizing how quickly Tygon melts on a hot muffler and had 2 deadsticks on different planes because the tygon touched the muffler. If you havent changed it, please do, I would not want to see you crash.

mine said fit the fin the the stab then stab to fuz. Did not need explaining. I turned the fin over, saw 2 holes, yup bolts go in there! QED! Couple of the pics are wrong, cabane struts show the diaganol brace over instead of under the front brace. Not a biggy, read the words and it tells you.

My bolts for the stab were socket head too, yes be nice if they were button head but you know what it is not a big deal, I can live with it so chilax! If at some point it annoys me I will swap them.

Enhine box, well it is hidden under a cowl, did you want to hang it on the wall and wonder what the airtist was thinking? Seriously. It's an ARF. It is a bloody good one, not cheap but you get what you pay for and the hardware pack is pretty good.

I'm hoping my engine arrives today. Need to go out and get a battery pack too, the ICU on my MVVS 30 requires a 6 cell or 2S Lixx pack. Dont have any 6 cell packs and only 2 LiFe packs left in stock and will use those for the Rx.

all in all I am pleased with the kit. Never had a H9 kit before. Normally I am a builder but wanted a bipe and this one looked good so I dove in!

engine has arrived and have done the engone mount holes, fitted the ICU.

Throttle arm on these engines are always too short to get the transition correct so making a new arm out of circuit board. This will be epoxied and bolted to the existing arm.

Peter I agree with the throttle dont know why they use that silver plate instead of a real arm a little longer. I will take some aluminum and bolt it to the silver plate in 2 places then attatch a ball joint to it to get more throw. You cannot get correct geometry/servo resolution by simply bolting a ball joint to the stock plate.

exactly mate, have extedned mine. Tiggy is all ready for it's first flight on Sunday.

Has anybody played with using differential on the ailerons as per the full size? I have put it on mine. Up about 1 1/2", down about 1/2"

can report the Tiggy is a delightful model to fly. Got 4 flights in on Sunday.

First flight it rotated in about 3 ft, just lifted off on it's own at about 25% throttle. Once climbed out I dialled in quite a lot of down trim. No other trim was required. Flew effortlessly at 25% throttle. Opened taps for easy rolls, loops and stall turns. Looks very scale puttering around. Landings are a breeze.

Very happy with it.
Hardly uses any fuel at all. Last flight was 15 mins and it used about 1/3rd of a tank, think the tank is about 14 ounces. Could safely fly for 30 mins if I wanted to.

Might up the timer to 20 mins.

I can say that I finally put the wings on and this thing is HUGE, much bigger than I expected and the pictures lead you to believe. I have the 20cc Hangar 9 Taylorcraft and this thing makes that look small. I have figured how to put a sullivan smoke pump, a third battery for the pump, and a 11 ounce oil tank in. It will be a little tight, but it can be done fairly easilly without any modifications. Now I am waiting for the inverted evolution smoke muffler for the 26 from Horizon that has been listed as out of stock for over 2 months now!![&o]
