Seagull 82" Texan
 

Guys,

Anyone have any information on this kit?? I reviewed the assembly instructions and see that the elevator servo's are located in the cowl?? huh?? I gotta believe my Saito 1.80 will vibrate those servo's to death?? Any suggestions or existing threads on this aircraft and how to move those servos?? I am sure it will be tail heavy so no doubt i will have to add lead to the front end to get it to balance on the CG. But adding servo's for the elevator in the cowl seems a bit crazy to me!!

I have the smaller version (71"), and it uses the same type design. There is very little nose moment, so the engine and the "heavy" stuff is not very far out in front of the balance point. Even so, I still need additional weight up front to balance. My 91 4 stroke is not a vibration problem, however.

I have built and flown the larger Texan and yes the servos mounted ahead of the firewall created a 'No-Dead Lead' condition and I even used a Saito 180....still have the plane for that matter....here is a couple of pics of it.

But will have to decide if you want a one-piece wing, two-piece wing or 3-piece wing:)...I opted for the two piece wing.

I am going with the Sato 1.80 too. Did you have to cut the cowl much? What retracts did you use, I have eflite electric gear. Did you mount you engine on its side, anf if so did you have to change your fuel tank location to get it above the spraybar?

The Saito was way too much power for this bird, and switched it to an Evolution 120 and that flew it just fine. I used the E-Flite retracts and they worked well and yes, I did mount the engine on it's side - with the Saito requiring some holes for the rocker head and cooling...This picture was the second cowl and the Evolution engine.
