Funtana 125 elevator setup

Hi,

setting up a Funtana 125. I had an issue with the elevator servos. They sit back to back but the model is not that wide. This is causing the servos on one side to sit a bit off the fuse. I have heard of this problem before. I discovered that the gap is about 3/32". I want to know how other owners solved this problem. Should I put in a 1/16" birch servo frame both sides between the servo and the fuselage to get the servos to sit apart? Or should I get low profile servos? In the latter case, how are Futaba S9551 servos (They are the only ones in Tower's catalog with low profile and in that specification)

Your call, but I'd shim them. Worked fine for me...

I am using futaba 3010 servos and went with the shim method. Works just fine. I have not had any problems with the shims on all 4 of my models, S90, 100x and 2 of the 125's. The latter 2 are running a 30cc and a 20cc gas engines. The others are running Saito 1.25 4s.

What thickness shims did you use. I am not sure wether 1/16" will work.

Also, do the SFGs really help?

Geez, just shim to fit. Whatever it takes?

Re: SFG's, didn't use them. Didn't need them to do anything I wanted to do. I suppose if you like to play on knife edge, and wanted to see how slow you could go while doing that, they might help?

Not necessarily to go slow in KE. I just felt the rudder was small...atleast smaller than the one on my Yak.:p

I intend to use 5625MGs, so I am concerned on the thichness of the shim- I may end up using 3/32 both sides and the effect this will have on elevator effectiveness. Anyway, lets see during the build

Fly it first Ameyam. With maxed throws, I doubt you'll have any issue with available rudder authority. If you do have an issue, then try SFG's?

Re: the shims. Don't waste another thought on them. They are of no concern. Do what it takes, then go fly.

Since I am located in India, getting SFGs later is a big deal- they cost $17 but cost $84 to ship!. I have a colleague going to the US and I plan to get the SFGs (and servos if needed) through him

I think I am short on servos for the elevator and rudder. So lets see.
