Pizzaz Engines
ANYONE RUNNING A OS 61FX?
ARE THESE TOO HEAVY (CAUSING CG PROBLEMS) OR TOO POWERFUL, HOW DOES A 46 GO? I'M NOT AFTER SPEED AND WAS THINKING A 46 WITH THE RIGHT SPORTS PROP ON IT SHOULD STILL HOVER FINE. PLEASE PASS ON YOUR THOUGHTS. |
Pizzaz Engines
Here's my experiences:
Pizazz with ST 51 (stadard muffler), 12.25 x 3.75 fun-fly prop. I liked this engine on my Laser 3D. But on the Pizazz, not so much. It will hover, but almost near full throttle. Was thinking about putting a lighter muffler on it (i.e Mac's one piece) - this will lighten the plane and give slightly more power... that should do the trick. But I also have a NIB OS 61SF that I was thinking of trying out. I wouldn't go for a tooo heavy engine on this plane as you'll need some counterweight in tail. A friend's Pizazz has an OS 70 4-stroke and he has some lead in the tail. a strong 46 will not hover the Pizazz like you want it to, in my opinion. keep 'em flying, scott |

What about the irvine 53 or the MVVS 49 with mini pipe. either one give a pretty big boost over a 46.
2 people at our club power them with YS 63's Way more motor than is necessary but weight and power wise about the same as most 60 2 strokes. Personally I would go with the irvine 53. I have 2 on fun fly's and they are plenty powerful and can be had right now at justengines for just underr 100 bucks shipped |

I have a Pizzaz with an Irvine .53 on it. It weighs 5 pounds, 6 ounces and needs all the thrust you can get. I'm running an APC 12.25x3.75 and a Tower muffler. It's a good combo. I haven't tached it yet, but it is clearly much stronger than my 46FX on the same prop/muffler/fuel. It will hover on this combo, but more power would make it easier.
If I had it to do over, I'd go with a Saito 72 or YS 63, or a light 2-stroke 60. I think the Saito 100 is a bit overkill. Chuck |

I have been flying a Pizazz with an OS61FX since December. I have been happy with the engine choice. I can hover fairly easily with it. I moved the rudder servo to the bottom of the plane under the stab, this allowed me to get the CG to 4 1/4". I added some weight to get the CG to 4 1/2" but it became a little too twitchy at that CG. I installed some oversized foam wheels and run a 13/6 apc prop. No flutter yet, although I watch full speed dives. I think a Saito .72 will offer similar performance with a small weight savings over the OS61FX. I already had the OS61 and have been happy with it.

I too have a 61fx and love it. Buddy that I bought the plane from had a 91fx in it!

I've got one with a thunder tiger .46 &12.25x3.75 APC and it hovers easily at 2/3- 3/4 throttle, still has lots to pull away too. I am actually surprised at the flat out speed too, i expected it to rev up but go nowhere with that prop but, it will haul ass pretty good.

I'm currently flying my Pizazz with a Tower Hobbies .46 and 12x4 APC prop. It will hover at about 1-2 click below full throttle. Not enought power to torque roll low. It's still fun to fly though.
My OS .91 is in for repairs, that's why I'm flying the .46 now. With the .91 it flew great. You have to add weight to the tail though. |

I will start on mine in about two weeks, have to get the race car out of the garage first. What does anyone think about a Super Tigre .45 on it? That is what I already have. Do you think it will need extra tail weight? I don't know how heavy the ST is. Any good tips are appreciated.

My 61 FX did not need any dead weight so I doubt that the Thunder Tiger would.

Webra .50!
Lighter than most .40-.46's and tons more power with the standard muffler. I would think it would be perfect for a Pizazz. I have one in My Sig SE and its awesome. |

I saw a Pizazz fly this week with a Saito 100. I'm now thinking my OS 61 doesn't have enough power now even though it will hover at 1/2 throttle. This person extended the rudder 2" and his Pizazz will literaly flat-spin or tumble at any speed with rudder and power added. I will probably add a rudder extension soon.

I was just commenting today that my Pazazz needed more rudder!

I just purchaced one and have a MDS .58 with the APC 12.24X3.75 and this is a good combo. I also flew a friends with the Irvine .53 and it flys about the same.
Just a note, Did anyone else have trouble with the crappy hindges? I almost lost an aleron on the 3rd flight. |
Pizazz Engine
My Pizazz arrived friday, going to start it today, I have a new Rossi .45 for it. Will let everyone know what happens. :D

I've got a Pizazz with a Saito .72 that will hover at 3/4 with a APC 13/8 up here at 5000 ft ASL. No tail or nose weight needed as moving the battery around changes the CG plenty. I think that if I had it down at or near sea-level it would easily hover at 1/2 throtle.
