Man Oh Man!

Talk about the fit hitting the shan!...There's been so many new arfs in the last year-Maybe splitting them up into 25, 40 and uh, bigger categories would work.

Gotta say tho' nothing but good votes so far...Myself I'd say

25 size-Phoenix Sonic or Sportsman Waco (not many to choose from here)
40 size-Funtana
Bigger--Lancair , GP Wagstaff or Sig 300 XS

Yet another vote for the GP Wagstaff 300. I have seen 3 fly extensively and it also allowed me to place quite well in my first IMAC competetion. Great looks and superb flying charateristics at an affordable price.

What's not to love?

Phoenix su-31 or giles. at a bargin price of 75 to 80 dollars, and the quality up there with the best, they get my vote.

Also i think in 2004 the plane of the year will be Qui Qui Somenzini's Yak 54 1/4 scale put out by horizon. He was at a fly-in in Alamogordo, NM and announced its arrival in early 2004!!!!!

If you guys can come up with a list of a dozen finalists I'll post an official poll here on RCU so everyone can vote among the finalists.

If it ain't scale...it's crrrrrap.
If it hovers, it better be a heli.
The winner better be either the GP Lancair or H9's large Skylane.
The only .02 that matters...mine dangit!

RE: ARF of the year for 2003?

1. H9 Funtana
2. GP Christian Eagle

The GP Patty is becoming the FOTM at most clubs, it's a nice looking airplane, but once you've seen one you've seen ten.

Nice try on the Ultimate, only planes that the majority of us can afford, not afford just to buy the plane, but afford to build it and fly can only be considered. :D

RE: ARF of the year for 2003?

Based on popularity at our field it should include the GP PW300 and World Models Mustang .40 size. So far the most votes seem to go to the Funtana and Wagstaff and the other trend seems to be that people vote for the plane they own. I was very interested to here from the few that have owned both of those models.

Is this like the Acadamy Awards and should be restricted to planes that came out this year, or maybe like Time Magazine Man of the Year and any plane is eligible. Maybe differant classes for size or style. Is it the most popular and is that the same thing as the one that sold the most cause than it might be the Avistar. Is it a fair comparison to put the Extra up agaisnt a Cub? Maybe do it like the Westminster Dog show and have Best of Class and than Best of Show.

I would also like to cast my vote for the Funtana. I own one and have done all of the mixing programming and this model flies amazingly well for such an inexpensive plane. With snap-spoilerons, it flies like some of the bigger ships. Really gets my heart thumping too.

Cheers,
Kevin

RE: ARF of the year for 2003?

I would have to say that the manufacturer with a large selection of high interest and high quality ARFS for 2003 would have to be H9.

I've seen most of their new 3D ARF's in action and their Cessna 182 keeps calling me into the LHS for me to buy it.

RE: ARF of the year for 2003?

In the warbird ARF category, I would nominate both H8 and Topflite for their new ARF Mustangs.

Both the H9 60 and 150 Mustang are very solidly built models and they fly great. Having the built in retracts is also a nice touch.

The Topflite is a solidly built kit with great flight characteristics, it can utilize a decent sized gas motor without the need to slice the cowl to bits, and it gives you the option to start out with fixed gear initially and then replace it with Robart retracts later.

For myself I had a difficult choice between the two but I bought the Top Flite because it was my intention to use it as a warbird trainer and I wanted a plane I could take to some of the many IMAA meets in our area. (If the H9 wing was 80", I would be flying "Marie" right now though...lol) I will replace the fixed gear on the "Big Beautiful Doll" with Robart retracts when I'm sure I have mastered it on the fixed gear.
