Wow-got my new one in the air today and it is a rocket and it flies like it is on rails-I never have flown a r/c plane this fast and it is quick-really makes me pay attention

Hello Plane Jim,
I got to fly mine Saturday. I have mine powered with a Saito 91. It is a flyer aint it. I love mine too. It is a toss up between this one and my super sportster 40. Mine landed easily too how did yours? I would like to get another to just strip it clean and make a new color setup to just have another LOL!.

it lands just like the directions say-it does not want to slow down-I bought another one from tower scratch and dent sale for 140.00-it is missing the hatch that you glue on top of the wing and I am duplucating the hatch for it now-I do have a os91fx -that I am thinking about putting in it inverted. The one I have completed has a 61 supertigre with pitts muffler-it is a nice flyer-it is slow probaly-but it seems so fast to me.

I've had mine half the summer and Love the plane... Were I fly most of the time I have a short runway so it took some getting used to puting it down... Once it touches down it slows down fast. I have a thundertiger 2 stroke 61 in mine and it screems... I got it on a trade and it's a bit nose heavy and getting it rolling with out nosing over was hard at first. but I pulled the wheel pants and put bigger tires on it and now once it's moving no problem.. I might add a little tail weight this winter... Hog out the wheel pants too so I can put them back on. Love the plane... Yea and if you didn't read all the threads... Go in and reenforce the wheel bracket area...Not much there to secure it except ribs...

Bull, It looks like you might have the gear in the wrong side which sets them back and could account for your nose overs.

I have an OS .91fx in my Shoestring. It mounted sideways without having to cut the cowl and put the cylinder in perfect line for cooling.

My next ARF purchase will be the Great Planes 60 size Shoestring. My inclination is to power it with a Saito .72 4S or an OS .61 FX 2S; would the OS be quicker and still be suitable for pattern type maneuvers?

I'm using a Bisson 70 degree Pitt's muffler. This muffler moves the can itself slightly back so I didn't have to cut the chin of the cowl either. However, the 70 degree rake of the pipes made it necessary to use two of those gray exhaust deflectors to get the exhaust out of the cowl. This combo makes for a very clean installation! I also had problems with not enough pressure to the tank so I added a Perry pump. I'm not sure if this was the mufflers fault or one of those nagging OS.91fx problems you read about. Anyways, the plane really moves and I will start experimenting with prop size once it warms up around here a bit. I started with a 13x8 apc that OS suggests on their web site.

I would go with the os 61. I am no way an expert about this but in my opinion the 72 just might be a little under power. I could be wrong. I wouldnt want to take a chance on such a nice plane.

I got a Shoestring when they first came out and used a strong ASP 80 four-stroke which flies it fine, but after flying one with a OS 91 two stroke I wish I had more power. Just make sure you reinforce the landing gear mount.

Plane jim sorry didn't get back to you the site wasn't notifying me when people respond and haven't been to this post for a while... I'd have to measure the prop... I got it on trade for an e-max I had... But I think when I got it it had a 10 / 6 wood prop and I switched it to a 10/ 8 APC I know it definetly went faster with the apc on it. It's a Thundertiger pro 61 with a pitts style muff. As far as the wheel bracket being backwards could be I'll have to take a closer look. The guy I got it from said the wheel area broke off and he fixed it.. I peaked inside and its reenforced. The slanted side when I just went downstairs was to the back side... BUt the wheels are at the front edge of the wings... Will have to check it out. As far as 4 stroke vs 2 stroke... If you want torqe to pull you straight up and do acrobatic style flying or after four feet straight up the 4 stroke will throw a bigger prop and do the job... but the top end of the power band is lower.... If you want speed go with the biggest 2 sroke you can put on it and the rpms are higher... Takes longer to get to the top end but it will SCREeeeeemmmm!!!

I have well over 100 flights on mine with no problems, other than reinforcing the wheel pants, and landing gear mounts it's stock. Once you get used to flying it, it actually does slow down okay for landings, depending on how much weight you have in the nose, the higher the wing loading the faster she'll come in. I have a magnum .91/fs in mine which is not the lightest motor out there, and she still comes in failry slow. "IF" i put this one in, I would def get another....aweosme arf

This plane is great! I have had one for two summers. It is in bones now and will be repaired by flying season. Mine has an OS 61 in the front. It runs like a scalded dog. Stay away from the 4 stroke 72. This is more for a 46 sized plane! If you go with a 4 stroke go with the 91 or saito 100. But any 61 2 stroke fits perfectly in the cowl. It would be a shame to cut such a beautiful cowl.

A Saito 100 is perfect...

No, I don't have one, but I have seen this combo fly pretty regular...its AWESOME!!!!

It does look like the gear is on back words ....I have 3 of these planes and the best combo for speed and power is a ys 110fz and a apc 13.5x12.5 works great for me ...The os 91fx with a apc 13x8 prop is a good combo.....If you can put a 61 in it you can put a 91 ....They are the same physical size... However the Pitts muffler four the 91 is alot bigger......JW

I used a OS 91 4 stroke and the cowl cutting looks preety good. As everyone else says, this plane is a dream to fly. Great looking too!

I'm about to install a Tower .75 with a Bisson Pitts muffler in the Shoe. Looks like the firewall has about 2-3 degrees of right thrust built in, and no downthrust relative to the centerline of the wing chord. How are you guys setting up your mounts, any downthrust needed for a .75 2 stroke?
