This is my second one , lost the first one on pilot error hahah (after 4 years ) I think this plane is the closest thing to getting the top flight P40 in an arf , but its easier to fly

LDM, Are those CJ retracts?

RE: VQ P-40 Build
Yes CJ retracts , I have about 7 pairs , and despite what some will write about them I love them and the servace that Bruce provides .
I use sierra and century exclusively |
RE: VQ P-40 Build
I have a pairs of those that were for my P-40 but they are in a Corsair now. After about 50 flights they have a lot of toe-in toe-out movement. Any ideas on how to tighten them up? I've looked at them but don't see any way too do this. Even in the up position they have a lot of turn in them. I may shoot Bruce an email too see what he suggests..

RE: VQ P-40 Build
I do the following on all my CJ gear , I remove the legs , make sure all the contact points have flat spots for the set screws to catch .
Reasseble , add locktight to all set screws . I use jbweld on the top of the scissor springs , this keep them from turning off the leg , once you do this its a set and forget set up |

I have done the flatspotting and loc-tite, everything is tight. My movement is a result of excess area around the rotating pin. The pin isn't bent either. The entire shaft rotates until the pin hits the edge of the slot and stops. It's been like this since about the 5th flight once the retracts loosened up a little. I've had Sierra's and they are far better quality, not even really in the same category in my opnion. Of course you pay for the quality but I think they are well worth it.
These are the ones made for this model... Shane |
RE: VQ P-40 Build
I just bought this kit today as a matter of fact. I have very limited experience in building. I'm just trying to find where to get some of the simplest retracts to install that operate correctly. Later I'll get into the pimped out stuff. any advice would be appreciated. So, I need 7 servos plus the retracts, right? Going electric, I need well, all that stuff. I'm not getting into that. ok, thanks

Todd, here's something to consider. [link]http://magnumrc.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=41_7[/link]
No extras needed,, just plug in and go. Not even an extra battery is required. Been using Lados for years and they are great. Shane |
RE: VQ P-40 Build
The slotted guide on the century jets becomes wallowed out. You can buy new end-plates with a new, tighter slot to reduce the toe-slop. They are dirt cheap.

RE: VQ P-40 Build
I have a set of CJ's in my Corsair and the lados in
My P47 and the cj's wear out alot faster. They are about the same price. The lados you mount, plug each retract into into a y harness and then into your receiver. Set endpoints to 100% and your done. Very robust and they have very low battery consumption. |

Yeah but that's an easy add on. And it's not that costly either. Takes about as long to install the struts as it does to install air lines, tanks, valves, servo, etc.
