Lanier 540 T 120
I have a Lanier 120 size 540 T. Looking to put in a saito 150. What kind of power will I have?

I have that combo. Using an APC 16x8 and 20% nitro with an OS F
plug. Plenty of power. Great flying plane. You'll have to do some cutting on the firewall for the stock muffler. Also reinforce the firewall and landing gear plate. I found the tail wheel assembly to be way too soft. I got it when it first came out last year. Maybe they made some changes since then. Good luck. |

Can't wait, thanks for the great info!

Plane will fly great with the Saito 1.50, but you will not have unlimited vertical. Try the O.S. 1.60 FX if you need this.

I know this is a trick question, so I will try to guess...............It will have Saito power!!! Did I guess right? Huh? Did I win anything???
Sorry, too many CA fumes and 15% smoke does this to a guy! Pete :D :D :D |

If you choose to place the elevator servos in the tail, the plane will come out fairly tail-heavy with the Saito 150 or 180. To solve this, a lot of people are moving the cowl out about an inch and adding some balsa and covering to extend the turtledeck and underbelly an inch or so to compensate. It makes balancing a WHOLE lot easier and eliminates / reduces the hacking you must do to the firewall to make room for the muffler.
I tried the factory-recommended elevator setup and it was just terrible. I put Hitec 225 BB servos in the tail for the elevator. Another problem: If you're installing a pull-pull rudder, you have to open up the covering on the bottom to get to the former in front of the fin and work on that former. There is a hole in that former, but it's too high to run a pull-pull straight through it. You will need to open it up some to make room for the pull-pull cables to go straight through. With these mods and the suggestions above, you'll have a great flier. Also, folks seem to like the 18x6 props for 3D. |
Use a bellcrank...
to get that elevator servo up front...helps with the tail weight.........

Good point, but you still have that silly Saito muffler that wants to go through the firewall. Someone on this board bent his manifold 90deg to make it fit. My torch ain't hot enough!

Was it a bent manifold or was it cut and soldered? I think I read where someone cut a slice out of the manifold then bent it together and sealed the opening with silver solder.

Now that you mention it, I remember both. I don't have an acetyline torch. Acetyline is hot enough to bend it. MAPP isn't hot enough. You could certainly cut out a wedge leaving, then solder or braze it back into 1 piece.
