RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

I had the WM SS40 power was a ST61;) Plane was great till i got bored with it and gave it away.
OTOH. H9 Cherokee IS a POS compared to the WM plane. So everyone makes good and bad FWIW.

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

I was also disappointed with the quality of the world models cap 120 kit. It was no where near as complete as my black hoarse sukhio!

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

Yeah... I saw that Cherokee in my LHS and I thought... for all the ranting and raving about H9, what piece of crap! But of course, one kit does not a company's reputation make. I'm still looking forward to my first H9 kit. Taiwan doesn't really carry them so I've yet to find a LHS that finds a model I like. I've only seen the Cherokee and the P-51, which I didn't think was that impressive either.

tIANci - that does look like a very cheap outrunner brushless!!! In fact, it looks like they took the mold from one of those ringing bells on bicycles :-)... but if it flies good, it's ALL good!

Cheers!

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

I have always been happy with WM planes ... I got the H9 Aresti F40 and F90, the F90 was a total disappointment, the F40 is a better quality plane. The Aresti was lovely. I am very keen on the new WM planes ... the Ultimates and the 60 sized Extra 300 (160 sized copy).

Bank - my SS40 has a Rossi 45 with the mini tuned pipe on an APC 10x6 ... she has virtually unlimited vertical ... I can let her pull straight up till I cannot fly it in a straight vertical line. But the Rossi mid range sucks. Got good straight line speed too. I am going to take the canopy off to see if I can get less drag.

Forestroke - I call it the bell cap!!! Oh yes ... the performance is brilliant for its price! Only cost me USD70 with the ESC ... what can I say ...

tIANci - try... CHEAP CHEAP... :-)

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

Forestroke - just got back from flying ... the CAP EP is brilliant! Smooth like silk!!! Need to try an 8x6 later on to see how the outrunner performs!

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

tIANci: Try it with a 60 size engine it will have unlimited vertical!!. I also removed the canope but that did not make any noticible differance to me.

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

Bank - I tried a TT61 in a 40 sized SU31 and hated the wing loading. Performance was better but wing loading made landings not as pleasant, not that hard but not pleasant. Actually, I am taking off the canopy because it got damaged ... wing got caught in the condo lift!!!

here's pics of it...and it was a well built plane and kit had 2 minor problems...control rod tubs where loose and wheel pants are cheesy but everything else is fine and as far as people saying they use cheap glue well does gp do any different? These planes are all built by almost the same people in third world countries what do you expect? I've flown a few different world models planes, Ultimate 30, Sky Raider II and both are strong and fly great. I've yet to fly the cap but hopefully will shortly. Also I got the GP Matt Chapman 580 cap and it's covering is poorly done it looks good yes if you can ignore all of the massive air bubbles from the triple layered monocoat and the tailwheel is well just plain junk so I'd honestly say the $119 world models 232 -46 cap is far better looking and built just as well as the $199 GP Matt Chapman 580. Oh and as far as Hangar9 Quality goes....How about those Corsair firewalls falling out? 4 drops of glue in each corner was quality huh and the Twist ARF with all the control rods which are unable to be used cause they included the wrong ones in the kit and have yet to fix either issue. You'll find complaints about every company but are they legit...some sure most however are just opinions and we all have our own. Enjoy the hobby and enjoy what you fly or build no matter what anyones opinion is if you like it and enjoy it...Fly It :)

I got pretty excited when I saw this forum. I relish in the chance to get to talk about my WM P-51. This plane has been the easiest to put together and the best flying also.

The quality is second to none and the look of this P-51 rocks.

MustangAce, nice plane but I suck at landing this plane on the sim. There is one for sale at a LHS , along with anothe low wing plane but I have to out grow my trainer first. :D

MustangAce 02-16-2005 10:26 PM

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

That's funny, I didn't think they had the WM Mustang on the sim. If its the one i'm thinking of, it doesn't. G2 and G3 have a Mustang, but not like this one.

This Mustang lands--s l o w-- like a trainer!!

forestroke 02-16-2005 10:38 PM

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

Mustaing Ace - Mustang land S L O W because pilot is G O O D. You should put one of those "please don't try this at home" warnings or have a whole bunch of footnotes such as:

*Achieved successfully only with the right combinations of flaps, elevator and throttle

or

* Not guaranteed to be smooth

Don't expect a person that is flying a trainer now to be able to land the Mustang slow.

By the way, sweet Mustang...

This plane is glow right ? and WM or not its the same model concept, wing ,fuse, etc.:)

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

forestroke you are one funny dude but you speak the truth. No matter what plane you are landing it has to be smooth . With my trainer this isn't always true. BTW I see your baby cub under your name.....[:-]:D

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

Whatever did happend to the original author of this thread? I'm very curious how his P40 turned out. I was seriously considering this plane since Mustangs are so common. But the rotating retracts scare the hell out of me. I can't stand the possibility that my plane might crash upon landing if or rather when the retracts fail. That is the major reason why my Corsair is still NIB.

I like the shark mouthed P40 but dang those retracts!!!

RC-FIEND - yeah... loved that Cub... but it mets its untimely death about half year ago.

When I left Hong Kong, I had to sell the Cub because I didn't think it would make the trip over to Taiwan. The new owner fiddled with the engine settings and got it going, and I quote, "perfect". The first flight he ever made with the plane, he did it on a windy day (not that windy from what others say) and he couldn't get it back to the runway. It was blown into the sea. He claimed that the plane didn't have enough power to fly against the wind. This was the last picture of her:

Oh well better him crashing it than you , sounds like he lost his orientation. :)

Very nice plane, where you complaining about his plane earlier this month ? It looks perfect if you ask me ,also what size engine are you using...

P.S. where are we going to eat with that thing on the table 8-P :D

DragonHeart 02-18-2005 02:13 AM

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

;) Eating doesn't have priority............ its ok apart from human error mistakes..... i put the decals on straight when it was on the table as it is above soo thier kinda wonkey when its held straight now

Ive put a 80 Fourstroke upfront for a bit more power...... will hopefully see how she handles on Sunday..

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

Several years ago I built a Super Stunts 40 when they first came out. It went together fine with the little picture symbols. Seemed to be a so so flyer but never had any trouble with it. The quality was great.

World Models also makes ARFs for other companies. I have a Sig Four Star 60 and everything in it has World models written all over it. It has incomplete instructions written apparently by someone who knows english for a first language. I don't think they were a modeler though?

This 4 Star is the worst ARF I ever put together. There are just too many things not worked out. Like the pushrods move in the outer tubes with great effort. So I put Golden Rod outer sleeves inside the World Models outer tubes and then used the Golden Rod set up.

The tee nuts for the wing hold down were mounted 5/16" off center. The holes in the wing were 1/4" the other way.

Had the wheels already mounted with bolts for axles and the threads ate the wheel bearings out promptly.

The engine mount black plastic casting was full of "cold checks" and was thrown away for a Great Planes mount.

It goes on and on.

Jim

RE: World Models ARTF !!!!!!!

w8ye - i'm not sure if i get this right... you're saying that WM makes great kits for themselves but drop the ball on their OEM customers? i'm not sure if WM makes the 4 Star ARFs but if they did, they'd be good. And I've never had any problems with WM hardware. They aren't Dubros but they are definitely among the best for ARFs.
