H9 P-40 Engine Choice

So many choices!
Planning on buying the H9 P-40 and need some input on what kind of engine to hang on it.

Specs say .61-1.00 2-stroke. Don't want to have to go big if I dont have to.
Also need to know a good brand.

Any .91 - 1.00 four stroke would work great. The plane is light, so you don't want to go with anything larger than a 100. Probably want to go with a heavy engine since the plane will require some nose weight.

Mine had the Magnum .91 and I felt it was perfect. Not as expensive, the motor has been excellent, great idle and mid range transition and it sounds great too.

I also went with the magnum 91, with onboard glow. I use a three blade 12 X 6, and also installed a robart retractible tail wheel.

I placed the servos right under the wing trainling edge, instead of in the tail, and I put the battery pack above the fuel tank.

I am also using the Keleo scale exhaust. It sounds soooo cool.

Go for it

I put a magnum 120 on mine w/ 3 blade 14x7.. Had to add only 1 1/2 oz of wieght to the tail. I also applied carbon fiber strips to the tail. Take off 1/4 throttle and have authority in the air.. Stalls flat and comes back stable without losing altitude.. Excellent combo..

Saito 1.00 works well, too. If you order a flex pipe and elbow, the exhaust can be run out the bottom of the cowl, no ugly muffler sticking out the side of a gorgeous airplane. The elbow can be drilled and tapped for a pressure fitting, and the flex pipe is no louder than a muffler, but has a distinctively throatier sound.

TT .91 FS in mine...
Balances just about perfectly IMO, at 3.5" with everything installed just as the manual says, w/ no nose wt. required.

Going to put the YS .91 AC in mine. Will have to wait and see how balance with this heavier engine comes out.

The YS .91AC should balance the plane just fine.
