Most of the WM fleet have right thrust built into the firewall. If you stand over the plane and look down, you'll see this engine leaning off to the right

I run a OS 1.08 in mine and with that its a mouth-full under the cowl. I am not sure what the dimensions are on a 120 it may be to big. My 1.08 head runs right to the edge od the cowl (sideways)
ORIGINAL: Dk4stroke Anyone put anything larger than an OS 1.08 in this plane. OS is coming out with a 1.20 AX at about 23.oz (less muffler). Sure would like to mate that engine with my new Midget. |

I didn't purposely put any right thrust into my mustang and it flies great... Even with the Saito 100 running a 14x8.

I'm on the low end with a Thunder Tiger .61 with a brison pitts muffler, Turning a 11x7 to a 11x8 prop . great climb out had to add alot of tail weight. thinking on adding a .91 TT W BB's mine is NAVY Blue without NAVY on the side ALF is my pilot

A .91 would but MUCH better. Since this this posting I have added a Saito 1.25 to mine and plane absolutely screams! It's doing nearly 130 mph on it's fastest runs. I'm turning a 15x10 prop on it. Only one problem... Man the landings are hot! The speed this little gem is capable of it outrageous. The great construction allows so serious stress on it. One thing that did happen to me though was the metal elev hinges broke on mine. I ended up pulling them out and replacing them with GP plastic hinges (4 of them in each elev). Since then no problems.
This is without a doubt a plane that provides "need for speed"! One other mention! Ballance your prop!!!!!!!!!!! |

How does the MM compare with the GP shoestring, flying, and whatever. It sound like it maybe built a little more dureable.

I've never "personally" flow the shoestring but one of our club members has one. I've checked out the construction on it and it seems like the mustang has it beat by a small margin. I do like the looks of the MM much better though. The shoesting Has a "High Wing" and rounded tail surfaces which I'm not real fond of.

I love my Midget Mustang, O.S. 91 Surpass
Modifications Glassed the center section of the wing! Made and extra set of gear, pushed out a little more forward Used a 25% pilot! Added some balsa sheeting on the bottom center of the wing, so as to make a nice transition from the fuselage to the wing. Used texturized spray paint for the cockpit Best Plane I own, can't believe I'm considering selling it! |

Those landings are hot. my way around that is making my approachs at a low angle which helps slow it down,

I modified mine by putting two servos in the back of the fuselage, one for each elevator half, this balances an OS-91 FX with an ultrathrust muffler. I get an additional 2,000 rpm out of the OS with the ultrathrust muffler, vertical is insane and the plane is extremely fast. The stock gear is quite weak and will cause damage to the underside of the wing on either firm landings or rough grass runways. I would recommend tempering the gear wire and bending it forward an inch or two. All in all a great little arf. It is an attention getter and a real adrenaline rush.

I did the same thing on mine (sort of) I widened the slot in the fuse. Had the rudder in the middle and a elevator servo on each side of it. Very nice flying plane. (PS Raised in Laconia and North Conway)
As far as the gear, take a look at mine in "My Models", I rebuilt the front of the wing and mounted aluminum gear to it under the fuselage instead of the wing. |
