Great Planes SpaceWalker Help
I'm sure this was not a good choice, for my first plane, but I have everything together now, but having problems, with getting the screws on the wheel pant bracket's, and wheel collar's, to tighten enough around the axel to hold firmly in place. Any suggestions on this, and any other advice would be appreciated.

I would just leave the weel pants off. There more trouble then they are worth, can always put them on after.
The gp spacewalker is an easy plane to learn to fly. Lands easier than a trainer. I tought someone to fly and they landed on there first approach, after practicing on real flight g2 |
landing gear problem
Forget the stock landing gear and install a 4- Star 120 landing gear on the front of the fuselage.

Wheel pants
I agree that pants can be a pain in the butt yet they look great. You must "flat-spot" the axle. Use a Dremel or ******* file to faltten the axle at the location where the set screw goes. This flat spot will prevent the screw from rotating around...along with the wheel pant.
My SW died in a mid-air about 6 flights into it. It was a beautiful flying plane and agree with the other comments on its handling. Three points landings are a breeze. |
Great Planes SpaceWalker Help
I have a friend who bought a spacewalker and was terribly mad b/c it flew like a trainer. Hehe I guess he should have done a little asking before buying *lol*. craigshortcut, you shouldn't have any trouble with this plane although I would recommend an instructor be nearby.

Wheel pants- got to have them!!!
Replace the GP hardware on the wheel pants with SIG's version, they look about the same, but are much stronger, and have a bigger screw, mine have never come loose. I have also installed SIG's fake engines on my cowl. |
Great Planes SpaceWalker Help
Thanks everybody for all the advice. I ended up fileing the flat spot, and also used cap screws. Also put 3 1/2" wheels instead of the 2 1/2". Everything seemed to tighten up fine. Of course I haven't flown yet. Please send any more comments on the SW,need all the help I can get.

Wheel Pants
Don't forget the Thread Lock on those screws. I, too, replace them with cap heads and I almost always use the SIG hardware. It is simply better stuff.
Best of luck and remember...bigger will look much different on final so keep the power on and don't let it stall. |
