I have a set of these graphics and they really are terrific. Charles also made the graphics for my Bud Nosen Mr. Mulligan. The quality is excellent and they're very easy to apply. Highly recommended!

Great looking Mulligan!
BTW. OK, I've been asked about my Beech graphics and that photo. The graphics come with "transfer" paper, this can be seen in the bottom graphic in the photo. The transfer paper allows for ALL the N numbers to be put in place at once, not each individual number one at a time. The top graphic, in the photo, is without transfer paper. This is not how you receive it. All the graphics will have transfer paper. I left the transfer paper off just for the benefit of a better photo. Same as I did with the "Beechcraft" logo text. One has it and one doesn't. Being without the transfer paper, is the only way to see the true colors. A staged photo if you will, and it looks nicer. So, to those that asked, yes, absolutely the transfer paper is in place when you get them. OK? OK! |
RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
Here's an interesting engine. I don't know anything about the brand but if someone's looking for a small gas twin for their Staggerwing, this might be just the thing.

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
Where is everybody putting the on/off/charge switch? I was thinking about putting it at the bottom where the manual says put the air fill valve, but I am scared that to much fuel will get on it. I will put it on the side, but that will be my last choice. Anyone have any pics of there on/off/charge jacks?

Mine is up under the top wing. I had the same concern about exhaust and didn't want to mount on the bottom for that reason. Building a hatch in the bottom would probably be the best approach but that takes time and talent, neither of which I have an abundance of :)
You also might notice in the first picture that I made the antennae "bolt-on-able" instead of epoxying them to the wing. I figured they'd get knocked off or broken either in the hangar or in transport (or else would be poking holes in other aircraft parts) if they were permanently attached to the wing. |
RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
Hmmmm.
Good idea GaGeeBees. I was thinking of mounting my JR switch/charger on the black striping but I like your idea better. I have the wings finished and mounted. Has anyone made the top wing a one-piece wing? Seems to make sense to me, and I use a Tahoe for transport so don't really need the two-piece wing, and it'd be stronger, I think. Just wondering... The engine is mounted; I have a 1/4 ply spacer behind the mount. Need another 3/16 spacer, but will need some longer mounting bolts than those supplied w/ the OS metal mount. I've ordered the Beech logos and wing "N" numbers from Charlie. Retracts are next, then horizontzl stab, elevators, rudder and tailwheel. That ought to do it! Taking a break from the Staggerbeech to get back on my KMP FW190A. The Staggerwing and FW 190. My two favorite airplanes. My cup runneth over! Al |
RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
Al,
Sounds like you're making great progress on your Staggerwing. I've seen the KMP FW190 and it's a fine model. Life is good, yes? :) I can still take my top wing apart, but almost never do. I just leave it together (with the struts attached as well) unless I've got to haul a lot of stuff and need to really pack things in. My aircraft transport is an Avalanche so I usually have plenty of room for a one piece wing but it's nice to retain the option of breaking things down. |

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
GaGeeBees, that location was my second choice and I guess I will probably put it there. I hope some more people chime in.

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
Rowdog,
No worries of fuel getting in the switch with one of these, and I have used them before. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXD664&P=7 A voltwatch mounted where it can be seen through a window. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&P=SM&I=LXHDJ2 And one of these, inside the fuselage where it can be accessed with the wing off. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXE963&P=ML |

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
Hey gang: Here's my 2 cents worth. On all my large scale airplanes, I always use 2 batteries for redundancy/safety, with two of the "dubro" switch/chargers, I am now switching to this item from "Maxx Products. Its a single switch that wont fail along with a voltage regulator. I reciently had an over voltage problem dur to peaking my batteries prior to flight which puts them well over the max. 6 volts
I have ordered this for my 1/4 scale Ryan PT-22 as well as for the Staggerwing http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-21.h...racle%20Switch Denis |

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
That's a great switch, Denis. $46 is pricey but nothing compared to the $ we end up investing in a bird like this. I'm going to start converting my fleet to either Lipos w/regulators or A123's. Not sure which way I'll go yet. I had trouble with a freshly cycled 3,300 mAh 5-cell NiMH flight pack on my 1/3 Spacewalker yesterday. Unable to pass range check and didn't fly it. Changed packs when I got home and had solid range at twice the recommended distance.
Anyway... back to the Staggerwing :) |

Here's another Byron Staggerwing (I didn't have the heart to tell the guy that he's got the wings backwards)

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
Well I found a gentleman with a super tigre 2300 with the stock and bisson muffler. I hope it will be here by saturday, because I am off all week :)
|
RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
My flying buddy just maidened an Ikon N'west Waco UPF-7 with a Super Tigre 2300. It flew sorta okay. All up weight is 16 pounds dry and the engine hauled it but it sure was slow. Of course there's plenty of drag on that plane. The engine ran well.
|
RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
Yeah I was scared to get it at first, but after looking at the specs and looking over top flites website, it states either ST 2300 or OS160fx. I know I am going to want more because all my planes have reserve power. This purchase was a last min decision and I had to get everything before my wife change her mind. :) lol

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
Has anyone had problems with there cowl being mounted with only 3 screws?
I am at the point where I could easily mount more hard plates inside the fuselage and add more cowl screws. What do you guys think? Rowdog, I'll be interested in hearing how the ST 2300 works out for you. |

Highly recommended! That's a really nice looking Mr. Mulligan! [sm=thumbup.gif] I always wanted one of those, to bad they no longer make kits. I have been thinking about the Topflite Stinson kit, 100" wingspan perfect match for a G-38 too. |
RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
just weighed the plane with everything but the engine. It comes out to 13.4 lbs. After putting the engine in, it should not be over 15.77. Then will have to add weight to balance it out, so I should be able to come out to 17 -18 lbs, hopefully 17lbs.
