Top Flite Staggerwing

Anybody hear anymore poop on the release of the Top FLite Beechcraft Staggerwing. Tower only shows the retracts offered by Robart so far.

I spoke with the Great Planes reps at the AMA show. The Staggerwing is for real. It is an ARF. And the rep said it is just awesome in person. He also said don't look for it to be available till much later this year. :(

That's OK, it will give me time to save my pennies.

Top Flite Staggerwing ARF?? YEOWW!!! Life just got really good!! Gimme a yellow one with black stripes, or a dark red one with gold trim. Yeah, baby!

I just hope they don't get it wrong, like Goldberg did with the Stinson Voyager ARF. (What a disaster that thing is... anyone who shows up at the field with a giant Stinson 108C with a red-white-and-blue color scheme and exposed servos all around should be shamed all the way back to the turnpike.)

Time enough to save up a sack of coin for this one, I'll be first in line!

Don.

According to Don Anderson at Great Planes, at the IMS Show last week, the Staggerwing will be red with black trim.

It is designed for a 120 sized 4 cycle or a 160 sized twin four cycle.

And look for it in April. Maybe at the Toledo show on display.

The OS 160 twin fits in the cowl, so maybe a Saito 3 cylinder will fit too.

The OS 5 cylinder is "...much too big, size and power-wise..." according to Great Planes also.

I happen to have an FT-160 twin sitting around waiting on my Stinson to be built...and that could be a while! Sounds like this would be a good home!

HOT OFF THE PRESS!

Not much more info but the price and release date look great!

(If all goes well, it just may beat the H9 P-47 to the dealers shelves!)

Dick, are you going to do one of your fine reviews on this plane?

RCR greetings Dick,
I hope they show one at the WRAM show next month, any chance you being there?, or does Peter Young get the "exclusive" on the WRAM show now.
Keep up the good work at RCR!

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Probably at Toledo, not WRAM.

I wonder if they had/have it at Nuremburg?

I certainly would like to know the wingspan!

Just merely venturing a guess, I would say in the 72" range.

It would be nice if they offered it in an ARC version too.

Hopefully just a simple computer glitch, but as of this morning, the Staggerwing isn't listed on the Tower Hobby web site at all.

Try looking for it after doing a "reload" on your browser.

It's not there any more.

I still have it in my wish list and it still shows up even after refreshing my browser?

I might as well be the first to ask..... Anyone know if this plane will be big enough to slide a small gas converted engine into? say a 25cc? i would think with the wide cowl of the plane it could be very possible, hopefully a nice clean install...

I can't find it either. I look at the Tower Hobbies "New Listing" section, The Top Flite Section and I searched for it by "Staggerweing" and the Tower Stock Number. I also looked at the Top Flite website with no luck, even after entering their Stock Number.

Saw the promotional DVD video for the Top Flight Gold Edition Staggerwing ARF at my hobby shop this week. An awesome looking plane. Promo says 1.60 size 2 stroke. Fixed gear is included, retracts must be added by the purchaser. Street price is to be in the low to mid $400 range. Fiberglass fuselage looks great. Looks absolutely full scale when landing with the flaps down!

Just bought one on backorder from Tower. Since I'm not in a rush, it will be a nice surprise when it gets here.

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

I just saw the video at my LHS also! It's a clip on one of the Great planes promo DVDs. That makes me wonder why they haven't posted anything on the web yet as you can go see the video.

Anyway, it looks totally awesome! They showed in detail the Optional retracts (Robart) which also includes a retracting tailwheel with closing doors! The retracts have sprung struts, and it looks like the tailwheel might be sprung also. It has a removable tailcone which encloses all the elevator control arm. They showed the two-piece lower wing, but I couldn't tell if the top wing was two piece as well.
Looks like they were flying it on a two stroke single 160. Showed it flying inverted and doing all kinds of aerobatics.

I could'nt stay and study the clip, but I'm a regular at that shop, so If I asked I might be able to get the DVD and get it copied and post some stills here from it! Unfortunately, I'll be on business travel over the next 3 days so I can't get by there until Thursday. If there's interest I'll see what I can do.

Steve
