After a long break off, I am back on my Staggerwing project.

Here are some pictures of the G-38 modification.

I found some of the correct color TF paint, the match is okay but not great.

It actually matches the Monokote rather well, but the paint and Monokote don't match the factory fuselage paint.[:@]

O.K. gang heres the photo of the tail wheel pull pull issue. The arrow points to the tube that should have been about 3/4"further left. When the Robart tail wheel unit is installed it will totally block this tube. If you look you can see where the protruding piece has been broken off by the installation of the tail wheel unit. Blue circle indicates where the tube needs to exit. I am fixing this as we speak and will post the fix as well as tools needed (if it works)

Denis

Hi Denis,
We just dis-lodged that tube from the support and, when the pull-pull system is tightened up, the tube will "float" while protecting things from rubbing. Not much "fixing" really necessary (Unless you are from Texas...):D

Denis, thanks for sharing your pics...the mount looks great. I pulled the trigger on an OS 3.00 (just received it Friday). Haven't had a chance to get started on the plane yet. I'm finishing up building a new workshop in my cellar and I'm dying to get to the staggerwing.

What radios are you guys using? I need to get a new one and I'm leaning toward the Futaba 10 ch Fasst.

Tim
I sold my '69 Camaro last year and bought myself the JR12X as a parting gift!
It is AWESOME and I haven't gotten half-way into the full capabilities...
Still have my '69 Mach, so I wasn't too upset by losing the Chevy and gaining a 12X [8D]

NICE cars! I had a '52 Kaiser four door with a Packard hood ornament. It was slightly less cool looking than those...

**edit cuz I forgot to load the picture**

Thanks Paul!
Kaisers have a cool-factor all their own. [8D]
I haven't been on here in a few days - and you all went on without me!
I'm hoping to get everything sorted out for the weekend.
Tomas invited me out to Bomber Field as his guest to fly some KMP warbirds - plus a certain Staggerwing :D

Do you have a FlyCam, and if you do, is it reliable???
Mines really hackin me off since it tells me one thing and does another...[:@]
MY LHS has even looked at it (he uses one on his SuperBikes while on the track) and doesn't see any reason they won't stay on or, record like it says it is.
I'm thinkin the vibration of two gassers is killing them.............
Ideas appreciated [sm=confused.gif][sm=confused.gif][sm=confused.gif]

Here's my fix for the tail wheel issue (certainly not as simple as F-82 Fan)
1. fashioned a cutting tool out of 9/32 brass tubing sharpened at the end to drill out the pull pull tube

2. Drilled out the orginal tube and drilled out a new hole approx. 3/4" to the left

3. Pulled out the orginal tube and placed it in the new hole: plenty of room in the fuse to stick your hand up in there

4. Epoxied tube in new hole

You may be onto something regarding vibration. I had a FlyCam for a while but only used it on one of my electrics. It worked okay but I was pretty disappointed with the image quality. After a couple of sessions and some aggravation in trying (and failing) to figure out how to trip the shutter with the transmitter, I packed it back up in the box it came in and sold the danged thing for $50 at the last swap meet. Here's a picture from it. That's my blue truck parked by the pond.

Hey Rowdog,
Maybe your F.I.L. is a little sensitive about letting a Dodge truck owner loose with his Mach 1??? LOL :D

Dennis,
that Twin SW drawing is gonna make me toss and turn at night with visions of how I can pull it off.
Thanks a lot!!! [:-]

Would somebody else please ask the Lord to lower the wind velocity in Houston a couple of notches??? Can the April showers and kite flying weather be over, already???

You're not alone: usually we get around 300 days of great flying weather in Arizona For some reason its been around 20 kts every day , usually 90 deg cross since middle March: Everybodys a little confused here. Haven't flown in weeks. We'll see what May brings

Denis

oh and sorry about the twin pic just thought I would make someone else stew over how to do it Heeeee

Alright you knuckleheads. Get a load of this...
After all of the recent attention given to a certain little Alien formerly seen on TV, guess what shows up in a modified Sweet-n-Low Stick at my field last weekend???
Gotta love it!
If I could buy one today, I would. What a classic pilot look.
I'd put him in my SW for crying out loud!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I'm going to try and make it for Sat. afternoon/evening. I've got a blasted industry trade show that I gotta go to today and Sat. morning but will be heading down as soon as I can shake loose. It's only a 1 1/2 hr drive from here.

Hmmmmm... this would be a fun little project...

I've got a couple of little electric Staggerwings (Wattage) that would make good test beds for a proof of concept model... [:-]

Denis - You're a very bad influence. You'll be hearing from my wife :)

I've got my NIB SW that could be converted if anyone wants to collaborate...

Have fun at SEFF!

Also check out my new 2.4 Carbon receiver installation in my new Absolute Hotliner over on the dark side...

Nice hotliner! I like the little fairings on the antenna exits. I'll never forget the hotliner demo at the very first SEFF. They clocked it at over 190 mph. The prop tips were louder than any IC engine. Very cool plane.

Regarding the Twin Staggerwing... I'm thinking the nacells from my DH-88 would look pretty close :)

On yet another topic... has anyone seen the new Cessna 195 that Aeroworks is introducing???

knucklebutt 05-01-2009 06:25 PM

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Just checked their web site (Aero Works) didn't see a 195 ?? I have always worried about taha type of civilian plane, For scale like flight you would be regulated to just going around in a circle, I wonder if I would get bored flying it. (Of course the staggerwing isnt any different, I suppose a loop or roll wouldn't be too far off.

Love the 195: but I wanna real one: got a little right seat time in one
