Hi Guys, has anyone flown the Staggerwing with a OS 300. A few years ago someone was planning on installing one but quit posting. I know I'll have the cut holes for the cylinder covers, but how does the CG turn out?

I read my comments.... I hope they didn't sound rude...

Wow.... YOu are a building Machine!>..
already another plane together? (swardfish)

I wish I could have you put my 12 NIB planes together,,,,

They are all giants... not foamies....

I will have to try and remove some weight out of the back of my chipmunk... as the vertical tail was crooked out of the mold.
When I cut and moved it strait, I added some weight to it... hmmm

Thankyou for the videos.... That means alot.... as I have not seen any of them fly very often...

I'm glad to hear that my Staggerwing isn't the only one that sounds like a pickup truck full of garbage can lids when it's taxiing. The Robart gear is amazingly noisy! Great flying!
LOL, Mine does not sound like that...but I do not have the robart gear so I guess when I do get them I will sound like a trash can too.

Hey Guys
I got a used TF Staggerwing over the weekend. I traded my Skyshark P-40 for my buddies Staggerwing. It needs some TLC, like some recovering on the bottom wings, and it has a couple of cracks on the wing joins that need repairing. But other then that she looks pretty good.
I hope to post some pics up here on the forum soon. Picking up a roll of the TF Dard Red covering tomorrow. Does anyone know who makes the matching paint for the Staggerwing? Top Flight only has the Missle Red color paint, not the Dark red. So thinking that I might find something close to Dark Red at Lowes or Home depot. Any thoughts? What paints have you used?

Thanks, Jim

Jim

Check Rust Oleum: they seem to have a match for just about everything and appears to be somewhat fuelproof like about up to 15%

FYI....The Missle red paint is sooo far off the monocote color...do not bother if you have to paint some other project that requires that color...
I realize the stagerwing uses a dif. color... but Monocote has left a bad taste in my mouth of late....
They have even managed to mess up the monocote colors...ex. CUB YELLOW..... WAY off from the CUB YEllow of last year....
Oracorver is a better match!>>>

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Hey Guys
Well, I have decided to gut the inside of my Staggerwing fuselage of all the air hoses, and servos and give this bird a once over. She needs some repair of the wood bulkheads in several places as they are cracked and weak. Also while I'm at it I need to lay some fiberglass up in the left winglet as it 'showing a few stress cracks. A little body filler on top side and she should be like new. On the belly I have a bigger repair to make as it looks like the main gear came loose and made a big groove in the fiberglass behind the wheel well. FUN FUN FUN!!!

Will try to post photos of the reapir as I go.

I have two complete S'wings that I'm thinking of selling.
The first w/ wings w/ servo mounts (JR126MG) already prepared, flaps and servos set up, engine mounted (OS160ax). Complete set of main gear retracts available.
The second w/ retracts mounted, plus retractable tail wheel.
Both are complete w/ all parts, hardware, manuals etc.
If anyone thinks he might be interested, PM me. We can talk pricing etc.

I need to clarify something. Neither has been completed, so they're essentially brand new.

Hello, I am in the process of assembling my SW, I worry about the tail retract, I am going to use the Robart # 121 as the manual says, but It look's weak, Is there a stronger alternative? I have the impression that is going to break soon

I did a once over on mine, and I decided to just keep the standard factory tail wheel. Now all I need are the Main retracts, air system and some money to buy them :)

rowdog_14 11-05-2011 08:33 PM

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Well my wife put a no on the retracts, so I am to stay with the factory gear am much as I do not like them. She said I could get the retracts in the next three of four years, but by then I want to have a fully built Comp Arf Gee Bee. :)

oh well the staggerwing it still a great plane, with those stinking factory gears.

Hey Rowdog
Sorry to hear that Congerss didn't pass the Retract Bill, But you can always set back a few dollars a week and save up for them as I have to do some times. Like when you go to the store at check out and your paying with the ATM card and it ask you do you want cash back- say yes! $20 please :) in no time you will have enough for your retracts. It works.

Signed, MR. Bad Influence

Mr Bad Errrrr I do the budget in our family, and thats exactly what my wife does, also has a really funny habit of not bringing home the receipt, I'll have her contact Rowdog to teach him the ropes

I still dont know what she spends that money on Haaa

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Yeah that would be easy with two paychecks coming in :) I myself pay two car notes(1 soon to be paid off), rent, utilities, insurance, food, gas, clothes & toys for my kid(another on the way), part mortgage in another state on a rental property, etc. so that does not leave a lot of room for extra saving for just random stuff...we are putting money aside for stuff but my wife would kill me if I spent it on airplane stuff right now :)

I am not looking for a pat on the back I was just stating why it is not feasible to do just a small $20 here and there.

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

got a lot on your tabe: thats for sure: I'll give you a pat anyway, I know many that would just crank on one of their SEVERAL credit cards

What you just listed is called "responsibility" which the younger generation know absolutely nothing about ( but thats the subject of another thread that I will not start)

Hey Rowdog_14

I wasn't tring to get you in any trouble, just tring to come up with a way for you to save up some $$$ for those much needed retracts.
Speaking of! My used SW came with a set of Centruy Air retracts and the nipple /Air line touch the tires when closed. My wheel measure to be 3.75". What size tires came with the TP Staggerwing? I may have to purchase smaller tires to keep the air hose from touching the tires in the closed position.

Regards, Jim
