RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
From what I have seen the AW and world models are identical. Except for hardware, mine came with none. I paid out my ***** 549.00 when they first came out and then had to buy hardware.
I see what foam you are referring to. I broke some loose mounting cabane mounts. Please send pics of smoke install and let us know if you need to move it around or not to balance. Thankx AP |
RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
That Taurus engine is sure a nice looking engine. Hope to get one someday!!:D

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
I'll keep you posted on my build.

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
Hey guys,
I have recently put together a WM 27% ultimate bipe with a DA50. I haven't flown it yet but the AUW was 16.7lbs (7.6kgs) You can see the whole build thread at: http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=1160 |

I can't understand how some of these planes come out at 14+ lbs. and others are almost 17. What's going on ? Scales maybe ? |
RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
Mine was very heavy, but it did not fly like it at all (2 1400 Nicad batt/switches for receiver alone)

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
Has anyone got a photo of how a Taurus 52 cc engine mounts to the firewall of the Ultimate bipe? I wonder if just double-ing the exhisting firewall with the engine box tied into new firewall, with a large enough flat area for the Taurus mounting ring to attach to would work? Spacers may have too be used to get prop hub in correct position. Thanks Capt,n

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
That is possible. However alot of guys now are using li-ion and lipo cells on RX and ignition, that alone would save quite alot of weight. I am using 2 x 2300NimH pack for the Rx, which is where most of the weight is. I also added some ply bracing here and there to toughen things up a bit, but I would find it hard to keep one under 7kg (15.5lbs) |

Here's the electric set up for mine. Just finished getting all the pieces. i'm using 2 - 1100 Nimh's for the rec. Hangtime tells me it will be enough for 7 - digitals + 1 - throttle. If not I'll have to break down and buy a field charger, but I wanted to keep the weight down.

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
What type of flying to you intend doing?? IMAC or 3D?? Personly I would use larger packs. Just keep a close eye on the 1100's if you use them..

I fly only IMAC type ( if I wanted to hover I'd fly helicopters :D ). I will keep an eye but I presently have a Typhoon pattern ship with 4 digitals + throttle + retracts with an 1100 and fly 6 or 7 flights a day with no hassels. I have a 2700 mah in a 1/5 Mustang 9 servos ( 4 digital ) fly 10 flights ( 2 days ) and still have an hour left on a discharge. |
RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
Rusty, very nice build thread. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us. A real pretty Ultimate, ready to maiden. Also, I was impressed with the Flying Giants web site, cool.
I have been using lipos in my 50cc gassers for a year and a half, with absolutely no problems. I'm presently using a 1320 mah & a 1900 mah (redundant) on the rx, and a 1320 mah on the ignition. I get 6 flights on them, & at the end the rx batts are still at 7.8 v, & the ign batt is at 7.6v. I guess I could stretch them a couple more flights, but I'm happy with my routine. I think you'll be happy with your Ultimate @ 16.7 lbs. It should be real solid, with plenty of power. Looking forward to the flight report. |
RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
I re-done post#32. Taurus Engine mounting ideas. Thanks Capt,n:D

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
ORIGINAL: captinjohn I redone post#32. Thanks Capt,n:D I haven't mounted mine yet the plane and engine are 2000 miles apart. But I was wondering if the radial mount was too wide for the firewall. Is that what your asking ? If you can measure the firewall, I can measure the mount |
RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
I have problems mounting the Taurus radial mounts to a number of planes (Wagstaff Extra/Pitts/Challenger Bipe)-- the best way I find is to mount the engine and mount to some 5/8" ply and cut the bolts off flush with the back of the ply and then mount the plate to the front of the engine box with 2 bolts inside the radial mount going to blind nuts--you can get a ball driver throu the holes in the radial mount. If you perfer, a little epoxy will add piece of mind. (sorry- no digi camera)

Don M. The useable firewall is 6 3/4 High X 7 3/4 wide. Motor box extenstion is size you want to make it!! Room for radial mount to firewall is one thing. Next having the engine shaft centered with mount not outside of firewall is another thing to think about. Another thing yet ...will the prop hub be in the right place with Radial mount flush with main firewall? Capt,n[:o] EDIT I found a photo of firewall...so added it here.

OK, here's a pic of the back end of a TS52. The radial mount measures 3 15/16" from outside to outside. Just to make it easy let's say 4" or 2" center of crankshaft to outside. If the "usable" ( I assume you are NOT counting the tri stock ) width of the firewall is 7 3/4" overall or 3 7/8" center to edge than that would give you 1 7/8" to move engine to the left to account for the right thrust.
This seems to be MORE than enough room to accomodate the radial mount. Am I correct ? The height might be another matter altogether, but I have not glued mine so if the mount sits too high I will just make a new firewall, the plywood they supply if I remember correct is not the best anyway. As an after thought it is 6 1/8" from back plate to front of prop hub. [img][/img] |
RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
CaptainJohn, where did you go ? I'm curious to know if it's going to fit.
|
RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
I am sorry....too much going on. I am sure it will work. I am thinking if you double the firewall and tie the inner box to new firewall....it should provide a flat place for the Taurus motor mount to bolt too. You may have to use aluminum stand-offs to get prop in right place. What are your ideas? Thanks Capt,n

I'm just getting it dialled in now. Check out the build thread for the flight report and pics. |

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
Is the firewall 7 3/4" BETWEEN the tri stock ? If it is then surely you can offset the Taurus enough to allow for the right thrust.
Glad your maiden went well Rusty Tumbles. I'm sittin' here in the frozen Arctic and just can't wait to get back to my airplanes for a while. |
RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate
I'm not sure. I'll get back to you on that. I need to pull the cowl off and make a thrust line adjustment anyway so I'll measure it.

This is not a Ultimate Bipe...but it is a Taurus engine. The set-up would be simular. I think 4 aluminum stand-offs would be better than wood box.
