I think the Aeroworks Ultimate has been discontinued. I bought my WM Ultimate from Chief Aircraft. I could be wrong, but I think they are the same. I am excited to complete mine, It looks like it will come out at or below 15 lbs.

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate

Hey, Captinjohn,do you fly with the group in Miss. that hosts the ProBro fly-in April? I'll be coming over there for that meet this year. I understand that some fantastic fun is had by all, so, I gotta be there.

My Ultimate will have a Brison 3.2. I'm not sure yet on the aileron servos, either Hitec 5625, or 5925. Definitely 5945 on the elevator & 5955TG on the rudder, a 225mg on the throttle.

I went with the giant pinned hinges, like you did. I don't like CA hinges, I think they put undue stress on any servo. I use pinned hinges even on my foamies. I think a servo has plenty of work to do, without having to fight a hinge that doesn't really want to bend, or return to its original position. My .02.

So, I'll get back to building my ultimate here soon.

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate

Well, that should let you know how old I am, mistaking " MI' in your avatar for Mississippi. Sorry about that.

This weekend is winter weather weather with 30 degree temps & freezing rain. So I'll be working on my Ultimate for sure. I'll keep you updated. The weather here this winter has been more like mild spring weather, so flying almost every weekend. I have an EF 87" Yak 54 that I can't get enough of. It's kinda like when you first meet a new female type that just absolutely cranks your engine. It feels a lot like like love, but it could be lust ( or just a healthy addiction).

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate

You know...if I had a 87" YAK...I would be flying it all I could. I hear they are great. My question is... do the 27% Ultimates (World Models or Aeroworks) need or use flying wires? Thanks Capt,n

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate

I have AW 27% purple almost done with 3.2 Brison. It does not req flying wires. Mine has needed a lot of extra work, but I hope to fly it this spring. I had to re work wing fit, bottom and top. Elevator stab tube about .03 smaller than mating tube. I have spent so much time with fit issues I am crazy!! I think it will be awesome though. I can not wait to finally be flying this bird. A 9 chan rec and servos away... AP

PS. my cowling is way darker than rest of plane

This is a very sturdy design, does not need flying wires. Just build it & go wring it out. Fly it like you stole it!

Will it 3D with a DA-50???

torqmeister 02-20-2006 07:02 PM

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate

From my research, this plane builds any where between 141/2 & 16 lbs. It is a high performance aircraft for sequence word or Ultimate 3D, pun intended. You can expect this kind of performance . even with a DA 50. All kidding aside, it would be ballistic on a DA50.

It flies fast. It flies slow. With 1450 squares, it does it all.

I've seen one fly, that's why I'm building one right now.

And besides that, I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

torqmeister-

What servos do you have in mind?
Do you think a smoke system will add to much weight?

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate

I have Hitec 5945's on hand for the ail & elev, & a 5955TG for the rudder. I think the 5945 may be overkill for the ail, so I might go to the 5925 or 5625. I am using the 5955TG for rudder on my 87" Yak & I'm quite pleased with it.

I am going with smoke on this bird. I'm going to stack an 8 oz smoke tank on top of a 16 oz fuel tank. I'll have to dremel some of the foam, but that shouldn't be a big problem. This plane out of the box weighed 8 lbs 8 oz. Add 6 lbs for engine, radio,& misc, & approx. 9 oz for the smoke system, it should end up between 15 to 15 1/2 lbs. It should be a real animal at that weight.

This plane out of the box weighed 8 lbs 8 oz.

Are you refering to the Aeroworks / WM 27% Ultimate when you give this weight. Just wondering because mine weighed 10.5 lbs with everything I was going to use from the box.

I can't figure out what foam he is talking about either, there is none in mine that I know of, that's why I questioned his weight. Seems he is refering to another plane.

RE: Aeroworks 27% Ultimate

I have the World Models Ultimate, the yellow color scheme. I weighed eveything that came in the box, to include the spinner & all the plastic bags the hardware came in.

Dick Pettit, in RC Report, built one. Out of box weight was 9 lbs 2 oz
Tyler Rynkert, in Fly RC, built one. His AUW with the Brison 3.2 was 14 lbs 10 oz.

Look inside, under the top of the fuselage( the upper inside of the tank compartment),. Mine has about 3/8-1/2" of sheeted foam glued lightly to the roof of the tank compartment. That is the foam that I will partially remove for my stacked tanks. I have already done a test fit, it is going to be sweet.

I will try to do some pictures, but no promises. I am all but illiterate when it comes to computers.

Yeah your right, now I remember seeing the foam. I haven't seen mine since July / 06, can't wait to finish up my job and get back home in May. I'm sittin' on a new Taurus 52 I bought over the winter.

As far as the weight goes I weighed mine in the middle of summer, in a basement, 1/2 mile away from the ocean. Maybe ( I hope ) there was lots of moisture in the wood. It's been sitting all winter, assembled, in a cold, dry attic. Maybe it will lose some weight up there. Maybe I should try that myself. :D:D:D

Photos are simple. Use Picasa( a free download) and just hook your camera to a USB port. Photos will go in to Picasa. From there all you have to do is click on photo to send. I place all my aiplane stuff in Picasa under documents. Then when you see a photo online you want to keep...just right click and send it to documents. When you go back to Picasa...it will be there with the rest. Now if you are posting a message and want to include a photo...click where it says upload. You will see a name or number of the file you want. Click on it. Thats it. Very easy once you do it a couple of times. Need any help...send me a privite email. Best Regards Capt,n

Your Ultimate ought to be awesome on the Taurus. I might be a little jealous. If I had to buy a new 50cc engine now, I think Taurus would be my choice. They certainly have a loyal customer base.

I hope it works well too I research the 50's to death. Actually I had never heard of a Taurus before but after discovering their web site I made a post here asking "how do you like it" and the response was overwhelming, they are still posting about Taurus 3 months later and to my knowledge not 1 bad comment. Everyone around here said DA, DA but their engines were always in the shop or on the way there or on their way back. I was sold after I spoke to Bill O. on the phone, just like talking to your brother. I ordered it on the spot.
