Anybody know when the new 60 size Spitfire from World is due?

World Spitfire?

Yes, I would like to know too! Quantum have it listed on their website for $259.99 but don't list any due date. Is there any information available about this new plane on the web?

the 60 spitfire is a new 2003 model (and by the way a real nice one), scheduled for end december as far as i know. Price is similar to that of the super chipmunk 90.

Any pics anywhere?

80" Spitfire from a quality manufacturer, mmm sounds nice

I would love to get information on this one.

It sounds great, the spitfire has always been a favorite of mine, would love to get some details on this one.

Any one have any info on this baby?

Steve

I misread it, according to Quantum it is 63" Wingspan

Checked out the Quantum site, it is listed there for $259.

It has a 63" wingspan, and requires 7 servos, which would lead me to believe that it has flaps.

Still sounds nice, and I like World Models, this could be a player

All I have been able to dig up is:

Specs: 63" Wing Span: ,Required Engine:.70 4 Stroke, Required Radio:6 Channel w/7 Servos

Price: $259.99

This is all from the Quantum Models Website.

http://www.quantummodels.com/

There is nothing on the World Models or Airborne Models websites.

I am wondering whether it is going to have the retracts in the scale location or whether they are going to turn them around to retract inwards and if the tail feathers are scale size or have been scaled up?

Also the 6 channels would tend to indicate flaps.

....and by the looks of the pic the wheels retract outwards like they should.

Any website for the pics?

Thanks. I'll have to call the dealer here in the US that already has it on his website to see if I can get a release date.

thanx Seduction

Good info

The seventh servo would indicate retracts, looks like a honey, almost a perfect mate for the Hangar 9 Mustang.

Interesting that the spec only calls for a 70 4-stroke engine. This is a bigger plane than the World P-51 which runs great on the 70 4-stroke and the H9 P-51 which is a similar size to this Spitfire calls for a 91 or 100 4-stroke.

Spitfire

I would think Sheldon"s would be the first to get them here in California since they are just over the hill in San Jose from Airborne Models, the distributor for World who is in Livermore.
Another pic can be seen in the January MAN, page 19.

I went and looked in the magazine and saw the picture. It shows the flaps but they are full flaps rather than the split flpas of the full scale. Other than that it looks nice though.

Still wondering about the 70 four-stroke!

steve114 12-02-2002 03:57 PM

Why are you wondering?

Seems to me that if it a .60 size, you should have no problem with a .70 4 stroke except it maybe a bit under powered, I would go with either a Saito 91 or 100 or YS .91

But that is just my opinion.

The plane does look nice though doesn't it, and the fact that it is World Models says it will be quality.

Looks good to me

Because I have an OS FS-70 II and I don't want to have to buy another engine.

steve114 12-02-2002 11:18 PM

Sounds like a good reason to me

That works for me

Seems like WM always underrates the powerplants that their planes will handle. I have the .46-sized Miss America P-51. I originally had an OS .70 on it. It flew fine. I recently swapped in a Saito .91 - two extra oz. on the nose and it still flies fine - just Faster :) Only had to shift the rx battery back a tad for balancing.

OK. So the details are now up on the World Models website:

http://www.theworldmodels.com/spitfire.htm

and I contacted Airborne Models (US Distributor) and they confirmed this was being released in the US in December, but not all dealers will get them in the first shipment. Then there is a 2nd shipment the first week of January.

This bird looks real nice!
