Yep, that's what I was thinking too, DomM. Saito 100 in box was just waiting for a home. Welcome home!:D

I'm glad they made the covering scheme like the old one. Very pretty![8D]

Only downer I see is that they won't be using that fabulous method of attaching the struts that the kit uses :(
That was one of the top 5 great things about the kit. If they go to the "screw and nut" attachment method, how did they shave of 2 lbs? I'm guessing but mabye they made the fuse walls thinner or removed some of the sheeting.[sm=confused.gif]

I wish they would stop doing this. I have a Sig Spacewalker kit in my attic, so GP comes out with a Spacewalker and I bought it, I have a Topflite 1/5 P-51 kit in my attic, they come out with an ARF and I bought it, I have an Ohio R/C 80" Chipmunk kit in my attic and GP comes out with an ARF, I haven't bought it yet but I probably will. I have a GP Super Skybolt kit in my attic now they come out with an ARF and I'll probably buy it. I have a Midwest Super Stinker on the building board and ever since Goldberg came out with the Pitts 12 I've lost interest in building the SS and keep eye balling the Goldberg one.

Is there somewhere I can go and get rid of this ARF fever. [:o][:o][:o]

Hey can you put an Ultrasport 60 with retracts in your attic?

Thanks!!
I noticed that Don had the magic attic also ;)

And my wife won't go up there because the stairs are too rickity. She wants me to fix them but I'm always too busy :D:D:D

Can I store some goodies in your attic? I have a nearly completed super skybolt I will sell you.

The manual is on Great Planes website. You can see some differences there.

RE: Super Skybolt ARF

I think they call for .91 4-stroke so they can claim the 2-lb lighter weight. Say, the kit with 120 Surpass (34 oz) will weigh at least 1 lb. more than the same kit with Saito 100 (20 oz) and lighter prop and spinner.

Perhaps construction has more weight saving measures like wood cut-outs. Even then the weight saving over a GP kit could be at most 1/2 lb. If LG, cowl & pants are made of light weight thinner FB or even CF, maybe another 8 oz. Let's see what turns out.

I've always wanted a Skybolt. It's now going on my list, and maybe towards the very top! Or should I wait until they iron all the bugs out? Anyway, that original color theme is awesome.

I almost bought the kit, now I'm gonna wait! One question. The manual just shows the OS FS-91 install, even includes a template for cutting the cowl. I hate cutting cowls, So I looked I looked at a 2-stroke to see if there was a big difference. The OS FX61 is much shorter and you can put a Pitts style muffler on it. Would it be enough for this plane. I bet the FS-91 would pull this around real nicely...just hate cutting the cowl up!

The OS .91 FX is the same size as the .61 :D

I'm building the Skybolt kit now and you will have to cut the cowl to fit a 2 stroke w/ a Pitts muffler. I found this out the hard way  with my Evo 100. Had to be a little creative to solve the problem. The pics speak for themselves.

Well, so maybe the FS-91 is the way to go! I have one installed on my autogyro that I can put on this anyway! Thanks for the inputs!

I think a good Saito .91 would be fine on this, don't you? seems about right. I have a .91 Golden Knight sitting here in a box.

AeroDave,

I agree with you.........2-strokes are about all I have.......tried a couple of 4-strokes and they were OK......
a Saito and an OS91FS but I'm stickin' to my two strokes.........more flyin' and less messin' with the
motor. I'm really considering this ARF though........never flown a bi-plane and always wanted one but
never wanted to put in the build time...........ugh.......two wings to build.........so this may be the answer.

RE: Super Skybolt ARF

OS/magnum 91 2-stroke is shorter than Evolution 100 by about 10 mm. So it may just be small enough to fit a 91 2-stroke in. Well, best way is to trial fit it at LHS.

RE: Super Skybolt ARF

As for Pitts muffler for side-mounted 2-stroke, Slimeline muffler will fit better than BCM for this cowl.

RE: Super Skybolt ARF

I find I never have to play with my Saitos. If you do, you're probably using Goldberg round fuelers, those leak air with the four-strokes, their springs aren't strong enough to keep them closed and the four-strokes can suck air in and it messes with the mixture. Saitos are rock-solid if you can keep fuelers out of the deal.....

I was leaving for a trip to Taiwan 4 months ago.

By the way, your avitar means to "edit".

In Mandarin, yes. In Japanese it is hard to find one kanji (usually it can only be expressed as two) for modify so, I had to settle for the closest thing to it. Both of us having the same principle writing system know how that is. Thanks, about the cowl though.

Anybody put one on order yet? Or is everyone waiting for the price to come down?

I like it too. 'Course I like most biplanes.:D

Is that Saito 100 physically bigger than the OS 91 4-stroke? (I like those Saitos;))

Mike,
That's cause they use a lot less glue and on reinforcing fiberglass and fewer formers and such. That's also why they don't make as big a hole when you crash one!!!

Sheeting? what sheeting??? All the skybolts that I have ever built only had a small amount of sheeting and that was on the front and cockpit area.
