Super Skybolt ARF
Sorry but did anyone saw the Great Planes Super Skybolt ARF on Tower Hobbies?
|
RE: Super Skybolt ARF
I found it. Very interesting. It looks very light, and when mine goes in I can replace it without building another. Can't wait to see it.:D

What's this? Another cool bipe, that's an ARF?[sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: Super Skybolt ARF
I wish they would stop doing this. I have a Sig Spacewalker kit in my attic, so GP comes out with a Spacewalker and I bought it, I have a Topflite 1/5 P-51 kit in my attic, they come out with an ARF and I bought it, I have an Ohio R/C 80" Chipmunk kit in my attic and GP comes out with an ARF, I haven't bought it yet but I probably will. I have a GP Super Skybolt kit in my attic now they come out with an ARF and I'll probably buy it. I have a Midwest Super Stinker on the building board and ever since Goldberg came out with the Pitts 12 I've lost interest in building the SS and keep eye balling the Goldberg one.
Is there somewhere I can go and get rid of this ARF fever. [:o][:o][:o] |
RE: Super Skybolt ARF
Why is it listed on Tower Hobbies site before it shows on the Great Planes site? :D
|
RE: Super Skybolt ARF
I have a GP SB kit on a work bench ( started it in 2004!) Ok, I only spend a little time on it here and there but , I probably will be flying the ARF way before I finish my kit!! Its always nice to have work in progress:eek:
|
RE: Super Skybolt ARF
I just saw the listing too. I only hope they have a decent covering scheme. Too many of the ARFS have the same ugly "you can tell it's an ARF" yellow, red, blue, and white. If they release it in the original colors of the Skybolt kit prototype, count me in for one!
|
RE: Super Skybolt ARF
Gee, I heard a rumor that the kit was going to be discontinued so I purchased another one for a future build. I like kits and ARF's as my schedule is somewhat limiting right now and ARF's keep me flying while I build. It would be real nice if they would start offering these new ARF's not only complete, but as optional ARC versions or with various base colors so you can pick your own color and add your own trim schemes. At any rate, I'm sure it's going to be yet another plane hanging in my basement this summer!:D

RE: Super Skybolt ARF
Although I prefer Kit-built planes, the neew GP Skybolt is the same size, but it's about 2 pounds lighter!
The Kit calls for a 91 -120 (4-stroke) while the ARF has a 91 at the top end. All in all, it sounds like it's going to be worth a good look. Only downer I see is that they won't be using that fabulous method of attaching the struts that the kit uses :( |

2 pounds lighter? How did they accomplish that I wonder? 10 bucks says the scheme is the same as the kit box. 10 bucks also says there is no way in hell you can build a 7 1/2 pounds Skybolt with those dimensions. Maybe they used a Canadian scale and that is the exchange rate? :)

Here ! Here ! Now. :D

RE: Super Skybolt ARF
Actually, it would be very easy to make a Skybolt 2# lighter than the original GP version. That plane is built like a TANK! It would take a total re-design, but it could easily be done. It's bound to have totally new construction techniques.

RE: Super Skybolt ARF
That would be nice to see and ARF lighter than the kit. Being able to redesign it and use laser cutting might have been a plus.
Still, a nice looking plane and a great flyer. I'll still miss the kit though.[:o] Scott |
RE: Super Skybolt ARF
The kit is one of the easys biplanes to put togeather at the field, 5 min at most, and the extra weight only make it more resistan to crashes ha, ha, ha.
If now you have to bolt the wing struts and cabane, even if it is lighter would not be the same. Lets hope fly as good as the kit does. And yeah yeah I going to buy me one too. |
RE: Super Skybolt ARF
Well here's more info from GP. They say it's one pound lighter, and the pictures seem to answer everyone's questions on the covering scheme.

And my wife won't go up there because the stairs are too rickity. She wants me to fix them but I'm always too busy :D:D:D |
RE: Super Skybolt ARF
man! I think I have to have that plane! Its been a couple of years since I built a bipe. That there looks like a perfect home for my 91 fx.
