Engine for U-Can-do .46
 

Has anyone tried an RCV engine in a U-Can-Do .46? I would like to know if it will work, wether they are decent engines and if they are a good fit for the UCD .46. If so, what size...etc.

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

weight would be the max factor, shoud be somewhere between 13-21oz to balance good;)
other than weight it will depend on your mounting skills to get it in there,shouldnt be hard[8D]

The RCV is more of a easy going trouble free sport engine.

It will not be good for 3D if that is what you have in mind.

For 3D use engines in the Saito 72, 82, 91, & 100 range in the UCD 40 plane.

OK so the RCV is out. I have heard that you need to mount the engine upside-down, and the tank in this thing is pretty high. Sooo do i need a 'pumped' engine? like the OS surpass? Or will a standard Saito .80 work best? Any ideas? I want to se this plane up right.

I have a Saito 125a going in my Mayhem should I just get another one??

I would go with the standard .80. Plenty of power to do whatever you want. I have even seen this plane with a saito 100 and it is overpowered, but thats not always a bad thing.

You have to mount the engine inverted but that's not a problem on the 46. The 60 leaked a lot of fuel the 46 doesn't. Follow the directions and you'll be fine with the tank mount. The Saito 82 (not Saito 80) is a very good engine. It's what I have and it will 3D anything. Try to build it as light as you can. I'm at 5lbs 12ozs. Works very well. That's the biggest engine you can use with the stock mount. Utimately the 100 is a great choice also. But it's heavier and harder to balance and install. If you go 91, the Saito 82 is move powerful and lighter.

I have a Saito 82 in mine and it flies darned good and pulls out of a hover nicely. It doesn't have a pump or regulator and doesn't seem to need one. One thing I did on set up is to make a loop in the fuel line and I think that keeps it from flooding.

AHHHHHH, you guys and those little engines, BAH HUMBUG:Dno such thing as overpowering a ucd:)with a little extra work the best engine is the saito 100[X(]
the second best is the 82[8D] go with the 82 i would if i had an engine that small,or a ucd46, mines broke:(

If all you have is a Saito 80, then put it in the plane. It will be fine.

Try to make sure your tank is centered on the needle valve and as close to the firewall as possible.

OK...

I can pretty much pick whichever engine I want smaller than a 1.40. I want to keep weight down, of course. I was hoping to get an engine I could use later in another plane if I wanted or um...HAD to.

Nobody has mentioned the OS surpass series. I like the idea of the Saito 82, but I am worried about mounting a non-pumped engine inverted and below the fuel tank.

I like the idea of putting a loop in the fuel line....brilliant!

Any more suggestions? I plan on buying the engine tomorrow if it rains here.

The Saito 82 works great inverted in this plane with no pump.

A OS 91 Surpass II would be good in this plane but is as big on the ouside as a Saito 100.

A OS Surpass 70 will fly it OKbut the bigger engines are better.

Saito 82 flys best with it. Ive had anything from an OS 50 to a YS 110 on mine.

You had a YS110 on the 46!?!?!?!?! Crazy. I'm using that engine on my 60. It works great on that. But on the 46....I can't imagine it.

If you go with the Saito 82 a 14x4W prop is a great starting point. That's what I run on mine and I love it. I fly at 4800' elevation. But I use 30% to compensate. If you are lower you may pull a 15x4W. Or if you use 15% you'll be happy with the 14" prop. Nice engines, Saitos. I wouldn't recommend going with a 6 pitch prop on the UCD46. Just to easy to overspeed and make everything flutter. Flutter isn't good...unless it's your heart.

The 82 on mine does make my heart flutter...... I'm affraid the 100 would make my nose hairs curl.....[X(] I mean, I look at that one picture that Gary's got. He had to sit down and have a cold one after a flight.....[:-]

i have the cold one before the flight, and sometimes two[X(]

go with the 82, there will be no issues with it drawing fuel or flooding, if tuned right[8D]
