I emailed WM a couple of weeks ago asking when the Zero would be released...their reply was sometime in the latter half of 2003.....something to do with technical issues...whatever that means....the prototype hanging in Sheldons Hobbies looked pretty good to me...don't know what kind of techincal issues they're referring to....

Hey P-51B, where did you hear that SIG is coming out with a large Spit?
Sorry I haven't replied guys. Haven't been over here in a while, then server troubles...well you know.

I saw it in either MAN or RCM. They were covering one of the R/C shows last year (I think it was Toledo but don't remember). Anyway, there is a photo of the Sig booth with a Spit hanging over it. There were some specs accompanying the pic, such as fiberglass fuse and span, but I don't recall what it was for sure, seems like 78".

ZERO

Airborne Models say's GS Zero is due in May.

NO on the G-23 for the GS Mustang, not nearly enough power.
The Mustang weighs 15lbs. I had a G-23 in a H9-PT-19 at around 12 lbs and it flew very scale like.

Most guy's are using Saito 150's, 180's, OS-160's, Moki 180's and 210's

I have a Miss America and a Ridge Runner with Saito 180's, great combo.

How about that Saito 450 3-cylinder? Or more probable the OS 300 5-cylinder?

Getting on the waiting list on the zero . I think a gaser would be great!

....something to do with technical issues
I wish they would add washout to the wing tips. Their 60 size Zero has a great tendency to tip stall.

I am thinking of going w/ multi-cylinder 4-stroke glow for the sound & look. Would the OS 300 radial fit in there? It weighs almost 6 lb. The 1.60 FX it calls for, I'm not sure if the plane will end up tail-heavy with it, being a Zero. The next smaller radial would be the Saito tri 170, which won't have enough power. Anyone planning a 4-stroker?

I think a Saito 170 would have enough power(@ 15 lbs ) depending on what you want to do.I think it would fit perfectly..

World Models tend to under-recommend power. This one they recommend OS 1.60, which I think is the minimum power I'd fly this Zero with. It will fly with the Saito 170, but won't really be fun. I guess I want a 4-stroker that has at least the power of the 1.60 FX, perhaps the DZ will come close. The OS 300 radial should be awesome though.

Servo?

I am a big Zero Fan, I already have WD Zero 60 with a saito 91, with several mod's of my own. I have never flown a model this big before and would like to. how do aircraft of this size and weight fly I know this plane has 1085 sq" which is will help allot. I noticed you guys talking retracts and i'm a bit worried they put to small a wire for this plane, they put 5/32 wire on the 60 witch if you use a 91 4 stroke you get really bent wire, I had to replace mine with robart 85 degree 3/16 fix the problem. I would hate it if people where belly landing due to whinny wire. Ok enough,my ? is what servo's would you at least run in aircraft this large. I use a JR radio. What servo's do you at least have to have. JR 531 or something better. What advise do you men have for someone moving up to this scale for the first time.

How about the JR 8101 ultra precision with 90 oz of torque.I think I may get these for mine.I'd also consider a stonger gear, especially on rougher grass fields.Robart must have something suitable.

By the way, has anyone heard if they plan to offer more than one color scheme?

Carlos Murphy 06-24-2003 05:17 PM

better gear

I installed Spring Air 403's with olios in my World Ridge Runner and they were almost a "drop-in" installation but I lined the wells with ply and balsa so there was a little more work involved.

I can FLAME any Zero I see!!!

I think the Spitfire you saw in one of the magazines is a Hacker ARC Spitfire to be distributed by Sig and it was a 60-90 size plane. If I recall what Hackers website indicated it won't be cheap either. Approx 68"WS. white F/Glass fuse, sheeted foam wings ready for retracts (not included), decals, no flaps, requires 10-20cc engine, flying weight approx 4500 gms.

Probably is. Thanks for the information, I don't recall that much being with the picture in the magazine...which I have not been able to find again. :(

Update!!!

I was told by the guy's at Sheldon's that the new ZERO's will be in the store by next weekend, the 11th ot 12th of this month.
A Zen G-45 will fit just fine but I'm concerned about the landing gear. If the production Zero's use the same gear as their P-51 war birds, a G-45 would be too heavy.
Would need to replace them with Spring Air 403's like I put in my World Ridge Runner.

7/11/03, Sheldon's just received 4 ZERO's.
They come in 2 boxes and the cockpits are molded into the fuse.

$550 is the MSRP. I could wait for the next Toledo show to see if I can get it in the $400's.
