The 40 size planes are going for 195. This bird is the new breed and is 60 size with flaps et al... I think Morris is the only one with them. He has an exclusive.

This is not the 40 size P-40 I've mentioned, not only that,VQ only makes ONE size P-40.Also from what I understand there are quite a few shops in texas that do carry these airplanes. The one I bought was from a company in Texas,he even told me he was running up to Morris in the morning to pick more up.He told he talked to Debbie at Morris and was told that out of the 450 that they recieved, only 15 were still left for purchase.

cubflipper02, you're getting a great deal, if they honor it, because it can't possibly be right. They must have made a mistake in pricing and given you the 40 sized ARF's price. Morris is a distributor and from what I understand LHS's get stuff from the distributors at a 25-35% savings off MSRP based on volume (I spoke at length with one of the proprietors of a LHS on the supply chain and it's pretty standard across the industry). I had no idea that LHS run at such small margins until I had that conversation. So given your senario, the LHS would actually be loosing money selling the plane for so cheap! Bet they change the price real quick after they figure that out.

well,it turns out your right.I got a call this morning telling me that he made a mistake, the price he quoted is what he pays for it.I did still get mine at that price because thats what he quoted me.I've got to give him alot of respect for doing what he did,I even offered him more money and he said no.Looks like I lucked out.

Originally posted by cubflipper02 the price he quoted is what he pays for it. I was going to hit the 'Buy it Now' button today and pick it up for $195 but before I could do it he ended the auction. He has sold a couple of these on Ebay over the last few weeks so it looks like he may not have made any money on them at all. |

f2racer,are you still happy with the airplane?I cant wait to get mine and was just curious if you had gotten into it anymore.

Any 60 size warbirds with flaps?
Hi All,
I just read the thread, and let me clear up some details. We do not have a 40 size P-40. We only manufacture the P-40 in a 60 size. Which currently retails for $279.99 as a introductory special for the christmas season. The one on ebay for $195.00 is a pricing error and is our typical pricing for our 40 size warbird ARF. It is very honarable of the gentleman on ebay to honor the pricing error to cubflipper. |

well,I wasn't sure if I should have just deleted the whole thing or not.But I figured if I explained what happened people wouldn't get in a uproar,I also left it in there to let everyone see that there are some incredibly nice and honest people in this hobby. You can guarantee that I will definitely be shopping through him again in the future.

Totally understandable why he stopped the auction and he sounds like a good person to do business with. |

f2racer,is there a spinner included?I'm curious, because if I remember correctly the scale shape is a little different then normal.I also remember topflite selling a p-40 spinner for their 60 size kit.

Dear Mr.VQ,I'm planning on using an asp .91 in mine,I happen to also have a top-flite incowl muffler that was used on a top-flight .60 mustang.I was wondering what your thoughts are on this, that is if it would work or not.I would hate to have a big ugly muffler hanging out the side of this plane.

Dear Mr. Cubflipper02,
Thanks for your interest and patronage in our products. I have not use the Top-Flite incowl muffler before and therefore I do not know the orientation of the muffler setup, so I cannot say 100% if it will go in there without any problems or modifications. As far as I can tell there should be plenty of room for your .91 and the cowling. The cylinderhead might protrude out depending on the orientation of the engine setup. Sorry I could not provide you with a definite answer. On my setup, I have a MVVS .77 mounted inverted rear exhuast, with the chain saw looking muffler which fits perfectly inside the P-40 cowling. Nothing is showing except for the need-valve and the exhaust tip. I hope that give you some ideas. Regards, Mike |

It definitley does,If my planned setup doesnt work out,I'll opt for the mvvs.77 setup. Thanks for info

Well,I just got my P-40 today and so far am very happy with it.I dont mind the sticky backed preprinted graphics as long as they hold up.It does look really good though and I cant wait to start on it.The only thing I'm not too keen on is the fact that they give stickers to detail the canopy instead of it being pre-painted.I'll probably just paint mine. Also, the instructions are a little vague when compared to a H9 arf or Gp,but if you've built any arfs before it's standard arf type assembly.I would rate this a 9 out of 10.

I got my P-40 today also. I thought it was going to be wrecked when I saw the box at my door, but the double boxing worked and no damage to the plane.
Only detract to this plane is the covering, however, it is alot higher quality then what great planes uses. There is not a wrinkle anywhere. Paint does not scratch off eighter. No hotglue in sight. Construction is excellently done. Retracts are installed and triple tickness ply used for mounting so they ought to last awhile. Plane is built from ply and cotonwood. full sheeted rib wing (not foamcore) All load bearing surfaces are ply and rest the cottonwood. Wood quality is alot better then the GP U can Do 3d. grain is finer so the wood does not stress fracture like the U can Do ribs can. Web site warns of cowl warpage, but mine was fine and just slides right in place. Too much plastic is a concern. No problem now, but might be in future if it does not hold up. (should go to fiberglass like the cowl.) Hardware on this ARF is even useable, the only other arf I have that I used supplied hardware was a Dave Patrick Ultamate. Only gear I will replace is to use Robart horns, but thats a preferance, not required. Overall great plane, seems much improved over the older designs. I was worried about VQ quality due to other posts, but have no issues based on this plane. |

My cowl was a bit warped, but 10 minutes with the heat gun and problem solved.

Well, now I'm really happy.I thought I would be needing to buy a new engine for this bird so I could find something with an in cowl muffler, but much to my surprise I can fit a gms.76 with the stock muffler with very little hanging out.The more I get into this airplane, the more I'm impressed with it.I dont see the problem with the decals either, the teeth decals look fine.

I've finished mine and have a couple of observations.First of all, while the the hardware looks to be pretty good,I would be very careful about using it.The pushrod connectors that came with it are pretty much useless. When I screwed down the set screw in both of these the threads stripped right out with almost no force.Seems to be some kind of cheap pot type metal.I decided I would just use z-bends.Only problem with that is the wire snapped when I tried using my z- bend pliers.I ended up soldering the pushrod wires into the pushrod connectors. My gms.76 with the stock muffler didnt end up working after all.The manual shows how to mount a 2 cycle at a angle so the stock muffler would run inside the cowl.Only problem is to get the muffler in the positon they show requires too much of the engine mounts to be cut off on the corners. So I ended up using my .91 with a top flite in cowl muffler, which still required the lower portion of firewall to be reworked.I believe if you get this plane and dont yet have a engine for it, a four stroke or the MVVS engines with the rear exhaust is the best route to go for ease of installation for 2 cycles. If your planning on a 2 cycle then the in cowl mufflers from topflite would be the next best bet.Overall I would still give this model a 9 out of 10.It looks really good once its all together,as soon as my runway reappears from the snow I'll have a flight report.I think with this .91 its going to be a guided missile.

You may be aware of this, but I have read several places that a top flite in cowl muffler is not recommended for use in anything over a .75 size engine. There is a overheating problem using this muffler in the larger engines. |

OS 91 surpass 4 stroke fits in cowl with room to spare. I am ordering the flex tube connector to keep the muffler inside the cowl.
Rods. I had no problem with mine. I do not like to use those srew down connectors, so I used Z-bends, no cracks or other issues. I did use the elevator joiner they have but applied solder to the main central bar to insure no pullouts and of coarse filed flat spots in the wire. Only structural concern is the secondary firewall for lack of a better term. The firewall is part of an engine box that is glued flush to a 1/8th inch former. That is the weak spot. They should have used a engine box that passed into the plane. I put triangle stock arround the top and sides of the engine box on outside and on side on inside to give added support. Only time will tell how vibration effects this plane. Seems impressive overall for now. Now I just need that missing retract servo from my Tower order to finish the plane. |

Which color schemes did you guys go for? As mentioned I got the AVG colors and I see that Morris has pics of a production USAAF on their site. Does anybody have the RAF? Post pics of your P-40...
