RE: Seagull Models Edge 540
thanks nedyob,
but The problem is I cant seem to find any thing higher than a 50oz by airtronics... furthermore the ones the come with the radio are only 50 oz I also read that someone said 50 oz would be fine.. having said that... what exactly will the performance be like with the 50oz servos....what will happen exactly? will they break off in flight due to the pressure, will the servos wear out prematurely? what exactly? I am going with the ball bearing servo...for extra strength... please keep in mind.. Thanks for any more feedback! SN |

RE: Seagull Models Edge 540
Check with JR. Hitec to see if you can get a servo pretty cheap that has 70 oz of tourque. I put Hitec 605's on mine. The only thing is that the servo could fail because it doesn't have the power to push the control serface enough to complete a manuver. Say like doing a spin or loop. Your servo's may not have the power or strength and could cause a futter problem.

RE: Seagull Models Edge 540
I checked my Seagull Edge 540 and I have Hitec 625's all the way around exc. throttle. With a 4.8 volt battery that would put out 60 oz of torque. You may get by with your 50 oz torque servo but may not be able to go full throttle manuvers w/o a flutter problem.

RE: Seagull Models Edge 540
I'm chiming in late here, but could anyone please tell me if this Edge 540 is still available, or has the Seagull Edge 540 been replace by the version now advertised by Horizon?
Thanks! Ernie |
RE: Seagull Models Edge 540
I believe the older red & white version has been discontinued to replace the new version. If you still want the older version you might be able to find one here on RCU for sale either new in the box or a built version. I have a built one with a OS 91 & Hitec 635's built if your interested. But we cant talk sales here in this forum.

RE: Seagull Models Edge 540
I just built this model. I've flown it 4 times, unfortunately every flight but one ended in a deadstick. The first deadstick was due a allan bolt coming out of the carby leaning out the engine, the last 3 where because the muffler had come apart (not that I knew, I thought I was running lean, so I kept richening it and trying again ! Would run fine on the ground but after take off it would die pretty soon).
The first three dead sticks resulted in sucesful landings, just a matter of keeping up the airspeed ... but the 4th .. I just couldn't make it back to the runway and stalled it trying.. it drop pretty much on all three wheels, nose up ... broke the fuse, but not too bad. Other thant he engine troubles, it flys great. Anyay, I was wondering is what color Red covering is used. Is it Oracover Ferrari Red (21023) ... or Just Oracover Red (21022) ? I need to recover the bottom. Thanks. |

RE: Seagull Models Edge 540
Well It looks like I got one of the older kits with the tail problems
On the fourth flight out the whole horizontal stabilizer exploded. Quite a site to see but the worst part is it broke my wonderfull 4 stroke engine !!! I wrote the company lets see if they stand behind this as it seems to be a known issue. I wish I read this thread before I flew it..... |
RE: Seagull Models Edge 540
Have the Seagull Edge 540 and would like some input as far as engine choice. My choices are
between the Saito 125 and the YS 110. Any information will be appreciated. |
RE: Seagull Models Edge 540
i have the seagull edge 60 size and after reading this thread did the following: 4/40 rod braces top and bottom stabiliser, peeled back covering on bottom of wing, cut out a 1 inch piece of sheeting to find gaps between wing joiner box and spar. Filled this gap with medium cyano and then pushed carbon tape into the gap and run it to the back of srar and then soaked in cyano.[ right wing worst for gap], ground out tank former to fit 14 ounce sullivan flexitank, remote glow and fuel filler , bigger wheels for our grass strip and 60 asp, No problems so far but a little bit under powered might go for 90 later on
