hi
this the wing regards mirco |
Had to have one
Ok guys, after reading all the positive posts about this plane I just had to get one. In fact my wife had order me the new H9 P51 for xmas, which was on backorder, so I called horizon and cancelled the order and got this one. I had planned on putting a Satio 100 into it since that is what I had for the P51 already. I was wondering if this power combo will be ok. I was also wondering if any of you have any building tips that you can think of that you came across that may be helpful in putting this dream together.
Just a bit of background, I have been flying 3 years and this will be my first .60 plane. Currently I have a Sig SE(os46fx), SuperStunts(os46fx) Tequilla Sunrise(os46fx, currently being repaired). I am the V.P. of out local club and am responsible for our monthly fun fly contests. This is my first post here and am looking forward to hearing from all of you. Thanks again, Bill |

hi- yes your gull/540 will fly just fine with the s/100 but you wont have unlimited vertical everything else perfect-enjoy its a great arf.

I know I am kind of late coming into this thread. I was wondering why not use the combo that is very popular with the Aeroworks 60/90. A .91FX w/performance specialities incowl muffler and a 15x6 apc or the 15x4w APC for more rpm and thrust. Also the 15x6 or 15x4W would seem to be a good choice on the satio 100 for max thrust too.

prop selection
What prop seemed to work the best on the 91fx? for this plane

Seagull Models Edge 540
Well I have the info you want. I had a Seagull 540 until comming out of a loop (at idle) and began to level and add power my left wing snaped off. After inspecting what was left I found out Seagull does not use any hardwood in the spar. I have emailed and called Hanger 9 to let them know.
As to how the plan flys, Great!!! I put a OS .91 on the front with a 14 10 prop and it flew great for 3 weekends. construction of the plane is good just very dissapointed in the spar. The wing joiner is the only hard wood in the wing. If you go to buy one just be careful. Thanks |

Bummer man! Anyone else have problems with the wings???
|
Seagull Models Edge 540
nope we and a few others have been flying ours for 3 months with absolutely nothing- sorry to hear about your problem but as i know seagull they will replace the wing asp.

saito 100 on edge 540
hello adrian....i have a saito on a scratch built beaver that is larger and heavier then the seagull 540...it has tons of vertical...it will pull out of a hover and climb till i chop the power..i am just a few hours away from completing my seagull 540..i am putting a saito 100 on it...should be a perfect match..i was really amazed to see how much power the saito 100 has.....happy new year!....pault

Seagull Models Edge 540
hey thanks- good luck with your 540-flies great, one of my close flying friends have just completed his with saito100 yep it flies marvelous and goes straight up TO the moon, runs it on 30% heli , this is hot for the saito, my dad don't like to much nitro because of all the rossi's we have they need low nitro so i will sneak some more nitro into our saito's tank also=happy new year to all , may the weather be perfect for flying every day!!!.

hi adrian
why your rossi's don't like nitro? put 2 shim (2\10 mm)and fly the rossi with 30nitro and 10 oil and you go ballistic have a nice year |
Seagull Models Edge 540
sh@#$t thanks but do we need more from the rossi's they blow off most others any way. and we run the two schimms already.
|
Seagull Models Edge 540
whot rossi you have adrian?
strange but rossi like nitro, and like high rpm too don't flood him with high pitch props |
Seagull Models Edge 540
we have several= 45.53 and 61. we bought one 53 a long time ago or my dad did secondhand from an old timer he had it a long time. make it short it still runs today on a ultra stik 40 , better than all the engines we have, from idle to take up and the rest with so much power to spare, the guys know that the Rossi's are going to kick a@#$ when we arrive at the field. since we have stocked up on these just in case they also go to china like st to be made SOFTLY(joke) . yes they like rpm we have tacked them at over 20 many times but we prefer to run or prop them for around 15/16.

Happy New Year to all!!!
Just got back from the field for our first to fly in 2003. 26degrees this morning and 32mph gusts. Only plus was no snow to deal with. Thought that I would be first up but to my surprise the Club Pres was already there. Had his Sig Wonder up and down by 0658. Got out my trusty Sig SE and was up for about 5min( couldn't feel my fingers and my eyes were starting to tear up) and landed at 0715. Was a great way to start out the new year. My 540 should be in tommarrow or on Friday. I can't wait, but I am going to try and wait untill around April for some good weather for it's first flight. Here is a pic from this morning. Bill |

Power for Edge
I would have to agree that anything larger than the Saito 100 is overkill in this model. Also weight and wing loading becomes a factor. A 1.20 size engine will go over 30 oz. and Wolf 123 is right that vibration from the large engine becomes a factor...heck ,someone already broke a wing so we know that some of these things are not that well built. A .91 fx with the Ultrathrust in cowl or a Saito 100 on 30% nitro is a VERY powerful engine for this model....after all it is really only a .60 size model with 62" of span.

HI
i agree with you pilotfrog, this plane wasn't born to be a 3d plane but a nice aerobatic plane, |
Seagull Models Edge 540
we have 4 new 540's flying at our field, 91fx x 2, saito100, mag108 all working great all with very good vertical but only the 108 can really pull from a hover. the one had a bad dead stick and with too little airspeed and space knocked the front mount of but it's ok 2/3 hours and it will fly again. i will soon try a 120 in it just to see will take it slow for sure.

servo's?
Got a Seagull edge for x-mas, I don't have much experience with aerobatic type planes. Will my s3003 servos be ok for basic pattern flying at 44.4 oz? It will have a saito 100 in it. Thanks. Randy

Seagull Models Edge 540
They would work but you would be marginal both in power and quality for this type of plane. Someone spent good money on a fairly powerful and well recommended engine for this plane. You should use good BB servos on the ailerons and elevators and a high torque servo on the rudder. A 6 volt battery pack would also give you some extra torque and speed. The Hi-Tec 425BB would work well with over 56 oz of torque on 6 v and the Hi Tec 605BB at over 90 oz would be great on rudder. These are availiable at good prices from www.servocity.com.

Seagull and Aeroworks Edge Ailerons
I think this post started with someone wanting to know the differences between the two planes. One thing I can tell you is that the ailerons are quite different. Aeroworks ailerons are larger and tapered. Don't know if this helps anyone.

Dave Patrick Edge 540
Has anyone bought the Dave Patrick Edge 540 with the Moki 2.10??? or knows of someone with one, as looking at getting it.

Staying on topic
About the difference between the Seagull and the Aeroworks. The Aeroworks has plug in wings while the seagull is one piece. Have not seen the Vietnamese plane in person but was looking at an Aeroworks .90 size Edge up close today at the field. The owner certainly though it was worth $100 more and who am I to argue....the usual Aeroworks quality in thier ARFs was there.

motor mount
anyone see a problem with using the already installed mount? looks sturdy enough.(saito 100). Thanks. Randy
