h9 p-51
Anyone have any ideas on how to attach the supplied arieal to the fuselage on the h9 p-51? The top deck behind the canopy is foam(what was h9 thinking?) underneath the ultracote. I tried 5 minute epoxy but there's no strengh, and ca melts it. My big hands won't fit down inside to build a wood frame and attach it to the airframe. Would appericate any ideas.

I haven't seen anyone have the antenna in place on that plane!

I am having the same problem, I just tried some CA, Was planning on trimming away the covering and trying Epoxy, but if it does not stick ,I'm left with an opening in the covering, I'm anxious to hear the answer on this..any of you have a cowl that is not fuel proof, and if so, what did you do, I'm planning on trying lustrekote to spray it??

Well, you are all correct as I see it, CA melts the foam, epoxy wont work, and I have also seen 5 of these Planes and None had the antenna mast installed. Well mine does.....or did. After the CA melted away the foam I made a receiver pocket from scrap balsa and installed by long tweezers, cut slit in top of fuse and there you go!!!. The only thing is, it is very hard to keep from hitting and breaking off while servicing the plane, installing wing/ removing wing, transporting, etc. Good Luck what ever you decide. it is a SUPER PLANE to fly, LOVE mine...

Saw one where a guy had put it on via a screw and a large washer at a fly-in this past september. I looked very nice and he said he had not had a minutes problem out of it.

On my Hanger 9 P-51 we mounted the antenna mast using MEDIUM CA. We did this by removing the covering around the contact surface on the mast itself and applying ca on all the sides of the bare wood but the bottom which contacts the foam. With the hole properly cut out, just slide it in and set it straight. We also put a drop of ca on the top to secure the antenna to the mast. Works great and looks great! Might post a pic if you want to see it!

I have had good experience by installing my antennae as follows.
Glue an appropriate length of outer case of push rod (the blue or red stuff that encases the inner yellow fluted rod) the length of the fuselage inside. Then insert your antennas through and into the blue or red casing, using the push rod casing as a holder. I have used this method on my last four planes which include a CG Chipmunk, CG Sukoi and a Top Flite Corsair. PaulR |

Sorry my answer to your thread on attaching an ariea to the H9 p51 was ot relevant. Also I read a 'post' shortly after my post to you, which says best not to install an arieal inside the fus. if it is covered with aluminum covering. Here is a quote from his post.
l"Now, the important part: DO NOT run the antenna wire inside the fuse!!!!! I was told today that aluminum Ultracote will interfere with the reception if the antenna is kept inside. I had been getting glitches like crazy on my first two flights and was lucky to have gotten it back in one piece. Another club member said he had the same thing happen with his. He swapped the receiver and it still acted up. He ran the antenna outside the fuse and it now works fine. He then read an article in one of the RC mags that addressed this very problem and their recommendation was an external antenna run. "Nuf said. " PaulWR |

UltraCote SUPREME will block out any RF...not normal UltraCote.
