RE: Dave Patrick ULtimate 1.20 Bipe engine????

5 months too late, but I have an OS 160, vp30 pump, APC 18 x 6, tank on CG, bisson pitts style muffler. I can fly "3-D" for about 25 minutes on that tank!! and it pulls better then the YS 140, even at 3000 msl!!! lets see... Hmmmmm..... $250.00 verses $600.00.... same power..... better fuel economy... fewer parts, easier starts... Hmmmmm... YES OS!!!!

Just finished my 120 ulty. Ended up putting a YS 120 AC mounted inverted. Made a real neat looking installation. JR 811s on the wings. 8231 on the elevator, 4721 on the rudder,a Hitec HS 81 on the throttle with a Expert 1500 MA nmh battery. Mounted the fuel tank on the cg. The only thing that I didn't use was the nylon control horns I switched them out for Sullivan stamped steel and the gold clevises. I also added onre of the DP ultimate tail wheels. Mine balanced perfectly with a APC 16-8 prop and one of the Dave Brown Vortec Ultimate spinners. All up weight 12.2 pounds. Haven't flown it yet waiting for the weather to break. It should be a great flying plane with this set up don't know how it will tr but I am still trying to master that move with my UCD and Funtana. I will let yall know after it's maiden flight.

RE: <span class=

I just ordered a new DP Ulty (new Yellow Scheme) and have my fingers crossed. I've seen some comments here about their customer service, but everyone at my club that has their products have no complaints.

Does anyone have the Yellow one? Any pics? Comments

I've got an OS 160 that I'll put in it, and Hitec 5925's fot the ele and rudd on 6V. I saw on Patricks site that they feel that Hitec 225MG's are sufficient for the ailerons. Has anyone tried this? What are you using for Aileron servos? Does anyone have video of theirs flying? Particularly with an OS 160?

Thanks!!

Well I just picked up one of these planes new in the box and after reading everything I can read about these planes I'm leaning toward the Saito 180, YS 140-175, 20 to 30cc gas engine, or OS 160. Its been over a decade since this thread has started. Anyone have any suggestions for newer engines that would also work in this bipe in the 11 to 12 lb. range?

I had one with an OS 108 and I did not need for more power. That being said I currently have a Circus Hobbies Reed Falcon that is just a tad smaller then the DP Ultimate with a YS 140DZ and it is a ton of fun. To be perfectly honest, I think going with the OS 160 or a gas engine will make this airplane too heavy. Mine balanced perfect with the 108, with an engine too much heavier you will need to mount the elevator possibly the rudder servos in the tail. If you need to buy an engine I would highly suggest the YS 115. It is much lighter then any of the options you mention yet will spin a 16x10 at close to 8,500 rpm.

Be careful of the engine chosen. Patrick himself said (may be in the instructions) that the plane was designed 120 size engines and vibration could be a problem. Pull your fuselage out and look at the firewall. Mine was lite-ply. I've flown with a YS120 and a YS140. Patrick talks about using up to a YS140L but admitted that some people ran with up to 30cc gas, but that all planes have their limits. It flies lighter than other planes designed for gas.

Thanks guys. I actually picked up a Saito 120S Black Night engine at the same time. I think I'll try it out on the plane first before I go out and get something more powerful.
I suppose I don't really need this Ultimate to hang off the prop and hover. I have other planes for that.
