G62 IN A BIG BIPE
 

I have a G62 that I would like to put into a bipe. I have looked at both the Sig Sundancer and the Great planes Giant Aeromaster. I'm leaning towards the Sig. I have never seen either of these planes fly so if anyone that has can compare them for me it would be great. I want something aerobatic and I think both of these are.

I haven't seen it, but I have heard that the G-62 in the giant Aeromaster is an excellent combo. I am thinking of doing one myself.

Both these planes look beautiful, some of the things I am concerned about is how difficult it is going to be to mount the G62 in either plane. I have a G62 that has been converted to EI and with a Slimline pitts muffler.

I have exactly the same combination in my Sundancer. As you can see from the pictures, the installation is very tight. I even had to cut off 1/4" of the muffler on the exhaust side and weld on a new end cover to keep it inside the cowl. I also had to move both sub-C size nicads to the rear of the airplane for balance. On the other hand, performance is excellent and the engine runs like a watch.

If you can get BigBird to post here he has been flying a Giant Aeromaster for several years powered by a G-62. It has a glider/banner attachment that has also worked quite well. His G-62 uses the C&H jump start unit which makes starting a breeze and eliminates the eventual problems with the spring starter.

I've got the Giant Aeromaster ARF running the Fugi 43. There is no way you can get that G62 to fit in that bird and still use the cowl. Its very narrow. I'd suggest a Evo gas engine for the narrow fuse of the Aeromaster. Thanxs, Jerry.

well, thats a bummer, there is no way it will fit in the aeromaster? Is the Arf different than the kit? I thought I had read somewhere that the G62 was one of the engines people were using for the Giant Aeromaster kit.

The G-62 is one of the most popular engines used in the Great Planes Giant Aeromaster and, yes, you can still use the cowl. My GA weighs 21 lbs and is a real hot rod. I highly recommend the G-62. I have had many aerobatic biplanes and the Giant Aeromaster is the best flying of the bunch, hands down.

Here is the other side of my Sundancer. The only holes in the cowl are for the carb and a little bit around the plug cap.

Should have clarified my response. With my Fugi I've got two holes, one for the carb and one for the plug. You really don't see much of the engine, but, the 43cc is under powered at my altitude. Everyone tells me to put the DA50 in it, more power than the Zenoah and fits in the cowl with no holes except the exhaust. I have not seen this setup personally but I'm told several folks in our area are running this combination. Good luck, Jerry

Thanks for the replys guys, I ordered the Sig Sundancer today. I'm sure I would have been happy with either of these planes.
