H9 1/4 Cap 232 ARF 73" problem....
I'm assembling my H9 1/4 Cap 232 ARF 73", and after glueing the wings together, the wing farings(sp?) don't fit over the fuse! I had to cut some of the wing faring back so it would clear the fuse... I noticed they gave me a spacer that I guess was suppose to be glued inbetween the wings, but the manual never showed this so I ignored it...
Is there a memo or something that should have come with my plane about this? Has anyone else run into this while building this plane? Thanks, Adrian |

In my manual it says to test fit your wing with cowl on. I didn't use spacer and it is very tight with cowl. I will be ok though.

This is the manual. Step 4. Very small part and no pictures.

Re: Manual
Damit, Maybe I should start reading the manual... I've built so many ARFs, that the manuals usually only get referenced if something doesn't make sense.. Even with the extra plywood rib, I still wouldn't of had enough clearance though. I would have needed two or more. There is plenty of extra balsa that can be removed from the flaring though so I was sort of lucky...
Did anyone else skip this step and run into trouble like I did? Adrian Originally posted by finnz This is the manual. Step 4. Very small part and no pictures. |

I didnt skip it, however when I trial fitted the wing I didnt realize the wing would fit over the cowl, so I didnt use the cowl when fitting and it fit fine, and when I installed the wing it was a very tight fit, so I modified mine to fit, by sanding the rib pieces, and it worked out fine. Daz...

H9 CAP 232
I am building my second one. Fortunately I noticed that step while building the first one. The second one that I am working on I haven't even opened the manual. I DID however remember that step, but the wing still fits VERY tightly where the wing meets the cowl.
"There is plenty of extra balsa that can be removed from the flaring though so I was sort of lucky... " What is this "FLARING" area that you are talking about? Is this the part of the wing that is supposed to fit loosely around that part of the cowl? If so I guess I need to peel back more coveing and do some sanding! Thanks, Jeff |

I think he's talking about the leading edge wing root,I had built one for a friend and had to use the spacer.

Hey x86guru, what gasser motor you runnin' there? Daz...

Same here
Yep forgot it on mine. Had to peel the covering and do a little planing and sanding.
What bugs me is that their quality control is so poor that they have to include this piece as something you may/may not have to use depending on what? Their ever varying build jigs? This is my first ARF and might very well be my last. I just prefer building. Too many things I see that are just done sloppy or poorly. Don't get me wrong, at $200 it's still a heck of a deal and a fine flying airplane. It's just the quality of the workmanship leaves me a bit cold. |

Thanks, Jeff You can simply remove the covering and sand the ribs.. I had to remove about 1/8" on both sides and there is still plenty of wing rib left if I needed to remove more so don't be afraid to do this.. Adrian |

At $200 bucks each, I stocked up on these things so I'll be flying them for awhile hopefully! For $200 bucks, I can live with these issues.. :-) Adrian |

Just wanted to note that I have a BME44 on mine and the whole club says they haven't seen one fly as well as mine at just under 14 lbs.

Re: H9 CAP 232
Yours must be build differently than mine.. I had EASILY cut a 1/8 peice of wing rib on the end, and there was another wing rib underneath...
