Sig Somethin Extra ARF
I'm looking to get a something extra arf... I've heard they're awesome little planes... I'd like some more info though... I'd like something fast.. Would it do the job? I'm putting on a sport jett .46... Any advice??? thank you...

RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
anyone????anything on the SE???? Good, Bad? Fast, slow??

RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
I've had one for a few years now, it's been the general "beater" get warmed up for something else plane. Flew and handled like a Fiat with a Saito 50, the Saito 56 made it a bit quicker and finally the Saito 72 (with a 3 blade prop due to ground clearence issues) that is on it now makes it handle like a Chevy.
It's not a particularly "fast" airplane as in all out speed mainly to do with the thickness of the wing. If you want "fast" then something like a Lil' Toni with a very thin wing is more what you are looking for. The Something Extra is just a good nimble fun fly plane. |
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
yeah... i thought so.. the wing is so damn thick... I'm looking for a 40 size though... the toni is too big... any suggestions???

RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
Ultra Sport 40. Faster than the SSE but will not do the tricks the SSE will.

RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
My Sig SE is my favorite go to plane. It can be flown in just about any configuration with NO bad habbits. I have a OS 46FX & Tower Muffler in mine and is a pretty quick flyer. A Jett engine will make it really buzz. I will also take a beating and come back flight after flight. Have no fear its a well worth the money high quality ARF..... I cant say that about many ARF's.

RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
I had one with a K&B Screamin' 48 that was VERY HOT! But, would land very slowly. An excellent aircraft!!!

RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
Hmm.. I have a kyosho extra 300 50 with a 46ax... It is a FAST and realllly agile plane.. very aerobatic... Would the SSE be faster with the jett sport??? I looked at something like a gp venus 40... How are they??? Should be really fast due to the thinness of the wing... and very aerobatic... how about it???

RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
What ever you bolt a Jett into is going to be amazing just make sure you have an air frame to handle the power. Dont forget a bubble Jett fuel tank to keep that power plant happy.

RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
what is a bubble jet fuel tank???? WHere do you get themm????
thanks/... |
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
[link]http://www.jettengineering.com/[/link] Hope this helps.
Look around Jetts site its very informative. The Bubble Jett tank will keep all the air out so no foaming of fuel with all those vibrations coming from that monster engine. |
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
thanks... I just looked them up... http://www.jettengineering.com/accy/tank.html
i read that the SSE's fuel tank is 8oz... which tank would you recommend... the standard or short????? thanks |
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
Not sure, I ordered one of each just to have as I have a Jett 90 and 50 waiting for a home. The fact that they are a bladder tank means you can move the tank around a bit. Even reverse it. Jett motors are pretty thursty at wide open throttle so you need as much fuel as you can carry.
|
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
ok... also, how do you fuel it up??? i read and it looks pretty complicated since you have to take the air out... how does that work??? do I need something special to do it???
thanks... |
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
They call it a fuel tanker. It removes all the air and then puts the fuel in. You no longer need any foam around your fuel tank as well.
|
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
hm.. that' nice... how does the jett sport 46 compare to an os50sx??? is it worth the extra 125 bucks???
|
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
Jett is in a class of its own, if you have seen one fly the sound alone will motivate you to own one.
|
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
nice... i really want one... can a standard fuel tank be used with it??? is it bad?? also, where do i get a fuel tanker???
|
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
I dont want to get to far off topic here. You can go to [link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_115/tt.htm[/link]
its the Jett fourm for help or support. Bob is the guru there and can answer any question you may have. Without the bubble jet you have a much greater chance of dead sticks due to foaming of the fuel. This would be bad.. |
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
will do... thanks for all the help... appreciate it
|
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
how does a lanier razor compare to this plane?? would it be faster? more aerobatic???
|
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
Sig AFR's are real quality and Lanier in my opinion is just ok.
|
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
not in terms of quality.. in terms of flying... is it a very different plane??? faster??? more aerobatic???
|
RE: Sig Somethin Extra ARF
I dont own a Lanier other then a Quickie 500 and it was poor quality. Sig I own and It was top quality. Do a search on the Lanier and see what people are saying.
