Canopy Glue
 

Hello. I am putting together a Twist 40 and want to know if there is an adequate substitute for canopy glue? Can I use epoxy or some kind of CA that I already have? Thanks.

I take it you don't want to use RC-56 and are looking for a suitable alternative.

There are "gasless" CA's out there but I'm unfamiliar with them. Have you considered a double sided carpet tape? This stuff is sold at Lowe's, Home Depot and just about every hardware store out there. It is high-tack, very thin and works great on acetate and other plastics. However, it is NOT fuel-proof.

I got away from gluing canopies some time ago as I never could get the results I was looking for. Now I use RTL servo mounting screws after reinforcing the undersides of my canopies with glass cloth or clear, PVC tape.

i use RTL also, i reinforce the inside of the fuse where the screw will be with a small peice of balsa epoxied in.
below is a link to RTL fasteners and the hex head screw that look the best imo;)

i have tried epoxy and it dont work that well imo.

I've heard of people using Goop with success. The market really needs a thicker canopy glue that won't run, cleans up really easy with water, and dries clear.

That 56 stuff runs all over the place but works awesome once it sets. Cleans up nice too. That's what I use. Sometimes I install screws as well. That holds it down while it dries.

I've used Goop with good results. I put it on the canopy, tape the canopy down, let dry. Any place where the Goop has come out I just rub, the Goop comes off. If I have a spot where there's a slight gap under the canopy just squeeze some Goop in, let dry, rub off any excess.

Thanks for the help. I still dont know what im going to do but i probably wont use fasteners because its just a twist. Ill look into that goop stuff or just get the 56
