Hopefully in the next month or 2 I'll be buying a DP extra 330 arf or arc

What would be the best way to install the blocking needed for hingepoints in the plane's wing rudder and stab. I really want to avoid stripping covering off the whole wing undersideif im going to recover 1/5 of the plane might as well get the arc for cheaper and for an original scheme

Whats wrong with normal, decent quality flat pinned hinges? They are in my opinion the first choice! Anyway...what does Dave supply with the kit?
Use them... I suppose they work for him and he's not to shabby when it come to designing and flying aeroplanes... If the aeroplanes a couple of months away I wouldn't worry to much about it. I certainly wouldn't bother buying a ARC on the grounds of installing a couple of balsa blocks for a hinge points. Forget about the extra work needed to film it...you've got to prime, sand, prime, sand, paint, mask and paint the cowl and spats. Jez' just that proccess is worth the extra cost.

dave supplies white ca hinges:

i like the pinned robat or kvette hinges the best. i did use the ca on my kits the bipe and the extra of which i have lost the hinges on the bipe and had to change them out. i will also be changing out the extra to the robat pin type next month.

I just substituted the supplied CA hinges for flat pinned hinges and have never had a problem with my DP Extra.....and believe me, if those surfaces were ever going to come loose they would have by now.

What I did do that may be considered overkill is to remove a bit of covering from the bottoms of both the aileron and wing and glued them from inside as the hinges make it through the wood and stick out on the inside a bit. There isn't a whole lot of wood there in my opinion so I wanted to make sure they could never pull out. Better safe than sorry. Not sure about the wood in the new kits as mine is the older model. Its a really great flying plane...you'll love it.

I had the ARC version and I honestly think if you want to use Robart pinned hinges there is enough wood already however I too would use 1/4 scale pinned hinges instead.

I shot these not so great photos when I uncovered my wings and ailerons. In the one shot you will notice that the LE of the aileron is actually a small piece of wood that has sheeting on the top and bottom. It gives the illusion of wood that isn't there. Again...not sure what the new kits are like but mine didn't have much to hinge into.

Another...and none of the cross bracing is original. All the bays in mine were empty.

where are you all getting your large scale pinned hinges also are you all using toothpicks with them? or just glue?
