Magic 3D Balance Issues

Just completed a Magic 3D ARF, however I’m having trouble with balance. I’m using an OS 46 FX, and even though the motor is mounted as far back as possible on the mount, I’m still about 15 MM off CG, nose heavy.

I moved the battery back next to the throttle servo, just behind CG, but that’s about all I can do short of adding weight to the tail. Rather not do that.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

nah...

Go ahead and put a little lead in the tail... With the OS-46FX an ounce or 2 won't matter :D

My dad has one with a Saito 50 on the front (pretty chunky..) with weight in the tail and it flies like a dream-

Add a tail wheel- Weight with a purpose!

james

Tail wheel is a great idea. With the long skid, which tail wheel will fit.

Magic 3D Balance Issues

I had one with a .46 Irvine and ran into the same problem. I added some weight on the tail skid. At 4,500 ft. the extra weight was still not a problem. I used a 12.25 x 3.75 prop and had power to pull straight up out of hovers.

I would also urge you to balance the plane right at the cg or behind it. When nose heavy, these things suck while inverted.

You will love the plane. Gotta be the best $100 arf out there.

I dunno-

My dad threw one on that was lying around....(Sullivan?)

Still does NOT STEER! But it doesn't make that fingernail on the chalkboard sound either :D

Good luck,
james

Steerable tail wheel

Here's what I did. I also have 1 oz of lead back there.

With a FX 46 on 15% CP and 12 1/4 x 3 3/4 prop it will go vertical at less that half throttle.

It a fun plane.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to flying this bird. Now if you guys can fix the weather.

What servo is it attached too? The Rudder servo?

Steerable tail wheel.

Yes, it's hooked up to the rudder servo, outside hole.

Bill
