DP Ultimate - Is it worth the wait?

I have been waiting for this plane since Nov. 2001. In Jan 2002, I was told it would be 6 weeks before they are available again. Now, Feb 15, it is another 6 weeks. I wanted it because of reviews I read, there are three Goldberg Ultimates in my club, and wanted to be different. But now, I am getting frustrated. Any opinions on if it is as good as they say?

Are you talking about the new smaller one?

I have owned 2 Goldberg and 1 Cermark Pitts (Patrick design) and 1 DP Ultimate-- They are ALL GREAT PLANES--HOWEVER IF IT WERE ME I would wait for the DP-- The difference in the size is worth it! The DP tracks stright on vertical like no other bipe and I have had a few. The tail wires make the neatest sound also--if you are using a 4 strokeyou can hear it. Again for emphisis-you will not go wrong with either, but the fuse and w\s difference on the DP is a lot for me! Just my opinion.

Oops...missed this thread and replied to the other one here about this plane...

I was hoping they might have some at the WRAM show tomorrow...I'm thinking of an OS 70FS up front for this one...was going to get the big DP Ultimate until I heard this one was coming out.

Sure they will have at least a prototype to look at tomorrow.

Take a good look over that Edge and pictures too, if you can. Thanks, Marc!

RC,
Like AJF said, it seems that every Ultimate Bipe flys great. I've had the Goldberg, Ohio Rc and currently am flying the DP 60" one. In fact, I was able to get out and fly this afternoon. Mine has an O.S. 120 III and it is a kick to fly. My wife is from Toronto, Is Ajax near?

Thanks for the input. Yes, it is the large one. I am putting in a Saito 150 for insurance power. I have $1500.00 in servos and engine waiting for the plane. Guess, I'll keep waiting.

I'm impressed with the response, I left the message in RC Showroom and RC Online with no response. I guess RC Universe will be my first stop now.

To AJF 2. Did you use the pull-pull systems on both rudder and elevator?

DLT 02-22-2002 02:42 PM

DP Ultimate

It's worth the weight for the 60". I am flying one with the OS 160 and Bisson pitts muffler and even though it came in at just over 12 lbs. the 18x8 pro Zinger pulls it out o' sight vertical. I have a 20 oz. tank and can fly for 25 minutes. ;)

Yep--used pull-pull on both rudder and elevator--did this on my Cermark Pitts also. It is a bit of a pain to install but it sure does work great! Absolutely no slop whatsoever--very positive response.

Pugsley-RCU 02-22-2002 04:46 PM

I had one as well....

with the OS 1.60 and a Pro Zinger 18x6. Great plane, sold it because I hated taking 30mins to put the damn thing together. Flew great though. I'll probably get the small one and leave it together all of the time.

A blue one would be cool.....

Hey, DLT. Did you soft mount your engine or stay with supplied mount.

Is the DP (large) Ultimate a candidate for a gasser? What would be recommended if so?

I saw the .40 sized at the WRAM show. It sure was cute. I could be convinced to have one. Dave is flying a YS .45 in it. Sandy said that they should be shipping in a month or so. $249.00

Engine for DP .40?

Hey Guys.

I just saw the little one in this months issue of MA. I'd sure like to have one too. I was thinking of a YS 63 or a Saito 72. What do you guys think? Any other recomendations?

Has anyone seen the .40 fly? If so what are your thoughts?

Thanks
Jeremy Smith

DP Ultimate

I have the large one with a Saito 1.80 on it. It is one of my favorites without a doubt. I couldn't tell you how many flights I have on this plane but it is a lot. You can do blenders with this thing and get it spinning so slow that the nose will drop (or stall)to pick up speed and level out again, or give it a little power and it will spin away. No bad habits and lands like a trainer. I would recommend it to anyone. I also have the Goldberg Ultimate with an OS 1.20 on it, it is a blast as well but I prefer the DP.

Hey guys,
I have one on order and can't wait! I flew a Goldberger with a YS 120AC on it for 5 years. Out of all the many big and small craft I have owned the Ulty is my favorite. I am having trouble deciding between a Saito 150 or 180. Any help in deciding would be appreciated!
Later gaters!

DP Ultimate

I too ordered one at WRAM although I ordered the ARC version. I will be powering it with a Saito 180 there is no comparison between the 180 and 150. The 180 weighs less and gives you more power. Either will fly the plane well but the 180 ist just the better of the two. I talked with Dave at length about the Ultimate and along with the 180 I will be useing Hitec servos that he recommended. Hint: the prop size that he reccomends on the 180 is a 17x10 for best all around 3d flying. Let me know if you have any questions would be glad to answer any. He also showed me his Edge 540 that will also be avilable in 2 color schemes the one he had at the show was the Purple and White model but he is also comming out with a very pretty Yellow, Purple and Red scheme which is just gorgeous. By the end of the year I plan on owning all of his models ;) .
