Arf Biplane
Does anyone have a suggestion on a good arf bipe for the saito 100. I would like 3d performance and unlimited vertical. Thanks

With a Saito 1.50 I would suggest a World Ultimate or Dave Patrick Ultimate. You might be able to bet what you want with the new Cermark Pitts S2B, but I kind of doubt it. The Saito 1.00 is on the low side of what you will need for just about all the ARF bipes that it would fit in.
Sorry, but I don't know of any others. Silversurfer |

As a new biplane guy that did a lot of reading before buying I think you may like the Ultimate better than the Pitts. The Saito 100 kind of limits your choices to the .40 size DP Ultimate or the Kyosho .40 Pitts in order to get near the performance you want in a quality ARF. Personally I would take the DP over the Kyosho without even thinking about it if you can find one.

I would the recommend the Bipe MK2 from Aviomodelli. Best flying bipe I know in this size, very good with a 91FS - Saito 100 should be perfect!

The Goldberg Ultimate would fly well on a Saito 100, but I'm not sure how unlimited it would be. It probably would struggle to climb out of a hover. Maybe build a Great Planes Ultimate kit, or a Global Ultimate ARF. I've herad they are good on a Saito 91, so a 100 should fit too. You may have to move a servo or two a little further back to help balance.

Tailtwister, I have the Goldberg Ultimate with an OS 1.08 and she is "just right", so I think the Saito 100 would be OK, but not great. Goldberg does call for a 1.20 now as their top 4s.
Richblin, That MK2 looks awesome do you have a site for this plane? |

Hi..
I have just testflown a Bipe MK2, and it flyes good on a OS FS91, I would bet it would be even greater on the 100. This bird is not an ARF, but something inbetween a kit and a ARF. It builds rather quick, once you got the manual figured out. Its stable as it gets on ground, and is a great in the air as well. If I was to make another there is several mods I would do, lightning the tail is needed as the bird came out tail heavy. Anyway, this bird is higly recomended. Sandman |

It's recommended 120 was a (1990) YS 120. I cannot say how strong the YS 120 was back then, but it sure seems like it would almost have to be less of a motor than today.
I've read about Saito 100s hovering (barely) 10 pound planes. I would not call that engine an "Unlimited" choice, but a good one for the Goldberg Ultimate. I've flown the Goldberg Ultimate on an OS 91FX and felt it was "OK", but for my taste, not enough. It would not pull straight out of a hover, but did everything else. What I've read says the Saito 100 is easily a match for the 91FX and may be a bit stronger on the 15+ inch props. That is the basis for my prior statement. |

Believe Aviomodelli is available from http://www.internet-rc.com/ in Arizona.

Thanks guys. You have been much help! I cant open the link for the mk2 any more info would be great. And could you specify how it is a cross between an arf and kit
Thanks Justin |

Hi Nits
The Bipe MKII is closer to a ARF than a kit, but there is somewhat more work than the average ARF. The fuselage is molded plastic, and the wings are planked foam cores. The worst part is the manual, but if you read trough it several times there should be no problems putting the Bipe together. I have several ideas how to lightning the tail, as a matter of fact I would love to do another, as I could make a great bird even better. If you decide to go with this Bipe, feel free to mail off board for assembly details\hint\tips\mods. Good luck Sandman |
bipe?
Hobby People has the Modeltec Waco ARF in the 60 size. I had the little 30 size and it flew great. But the Waco is not going to be as aerobatic as an Ultimate of course. Think their going for 249.00 at HP.

For Sandmannorawy
Ive been looking at the AVIOMODELLI Bipe. Is it pre-covered? and is green the only color choice? The on line catalog shows a green one and a yellow one. How much time is involved in construction? And is the manual in English? (this is an Italian made model) Thats a saito 100 in that CG Ultimate and it's not near enough. Now obviously I knew it called for a 120 on the high end but I cut a lot of weight out of this kit and thought the 100 would suffice, plus I just happened to have one in the shop. With the low end being a 91 and the reduced weight the 100 is not enough for this 60 size aerobat. Try the Dave Patrick Ultimat 40 (currently backordered 6 weeks) or that AVIOMODELLI. |
RE: Arf Biplane
Has anyone heard about or seen the Robbe Duett???
Or the Airspeed Ultimates? These aircraft would probably suit your needs nicely! |
RE: Arf Biplane
No, never heard of 'em . Where can I take a looksie? Always looking at new bipes. If it don't have two wings, I don't want to fly it!

RE: Arf Biplane
With this engine( which is a great one) I would stick with a monoplane to get lightweight and low wing loading,if you want 3D performance. The Saito will 3D a bipe, but it will have to be a .40-50 size and with all your components added up it will be heavy. Most manouvers will have to be forced with lots of stick input and lots of throttle.3d looks best when the plane and engine can work together well matched.Bi planes need much more power and torque than monoplanes, to do well in aerobatics
Bipes will 3D well, but have to be a considerable size, well built with minimum weight and need an extremely high performance engine. |
RE: Arf Biplane
The Aviomodelli Bipe does not come colored. It is white. The fuse is some kind of plastic and the wings are covered with some kind of covering. You can paint them any color that you want. I am trying to decide if I want to buy one myself. they will be in stock on Friday.

RE: Arf Biplane
Just ordered mine, (w/ wire kit). Intentions of making it look like the green one in the catalog.
Should be a gorgeous airplane. Hope it flys good. Ive got a DPM ultimate 40. a Goldberg Ultimate, and a World Ultimate 30. Time to move on to a differant type bipe. |
