Engine for hangar9 edge 540
OK. The Saito 180 is a GREAT engine, but Horizon doesn't have it right when they say to use a 16X8 prop. That is too small for that engine. No 4 stroke should go above 10,000 on the ground, regardless of what the instructions say. They will gain RPM in the air, and you will wear it out too fast. YS engines are the only exception. Some of the smaller ones are built to rev up higher. A 16X10 prop is better, but something like a 17X6 is good. The only problem is the 17X6 is hard to find, but I have seen them. I saw a Saito 180 on a Sig Extra and with the 16X10 it was a rocket on vertical, and the engine wasn't revving up over 10 on the ground. Another good choice is the OS 160 2 stroke. It's got just as much, if not more power than the 180. It sounds almost like a gas engine too.

Your prop is too big. Go with Something like a 16X10.

the 18X 8 is listed as a sport prop. Oh well. The Edge I saw with the 160 has a 16X10, and it had ALOT of power.

My son flew 'mine' all summer with a Moki 1.8 - nice combo, but could use a bit more - bet a Moki 2.1 might be perfect

My brother has one and he's tried the Moki2.10, OS1.60, and now finally the Moki 1.80. With the Moki 2.10 it wouldn't waterfall and it would tip stall on landing if too slow (over wingloaded), on the OS it would waterfall super tight but didn't have quite the long straight uplines for IMAC. The Moki 1.80 is the perfect engine for this airframe in our experience. It will Waterfall real tight, flat inverted spin, land at a crawl, and he can take it off, pull to a vertical upline, and you can watch in amazement as it will accelerate upward out of site. It is absolutely awesome. His prop is a Mejlick 19*8 Carbon Fiber. We are about 7-800 feet above sea level I believe.
