E flight Beaver DCH-2 conversion

Heres my latest, the beaver converted to diesel, thats an Enya Ss25 diesel in the cowl, this is a very very well thought out, high quality airframe, conversion was pretty simple sawed
off that little box on the front of the firewall, glued on an 1/8 ply firewall to the old one the 2pc great planes mount even lined up with the trapped nuts in the original fire wall this is a big plane 68" span wt about 5.5 lbs it came in lighter than the electric which is stated to be up to 6.2 lbs, It should easily handle a 40 glow . I used 225 Hitec servos for all controls and a sub micro for throttle, went to 3 1/2 main wheels 1 1/4 tail wheel and added the door outlines and steps. all tail surface controls are inside nice along with the flap controls only the aileron rods are outside martin the OS32SX ( just got one would be a good choice same bolt up pattern and no cowl hacking just that hole in the side of the cowl and small hole for needle valve extension there is more on this on the Diesel site under beaver |

Nice!
Keep us posted on how well it handles the non-electric power. |
RE: E flight Beaver DCH-2 conversion
I wish this came out with a choice of glow or E-power.

RE: E flight Beaver DCH-2 conversion
I agree, I really like the plane, but too bad its designed just for e-power.

RE: E flight Beaver DCH-2 conversion
I got an E mail from e flight product manager when I posted this on the diesel site, he wants to know how it goes so it just might happen. it certainly would be great a glow or diesel and a lot lot less money to set up too martin It was an easy conversion use a JR 1500 NiMh battery and got a perfect balance in the "stock electric conversion location that hatch is nice also screwed on windshield rather than glue makes access easy also the big side windows are screwed not glues also for same reason

Sweet! Nice to see a "real" powerplant in there! :D

Many of the larger E-Flite planes can be converted to fuel. The Beaver is perfect, as is the samll Pawnee (I did that) Great job AMB. I think the Beaver might be a good candidate for a .40 2S like an OS .40FP or .40 LA

RE: E flight Beaver DCH-2 conversion
K Mot I have an OSA32SX waiting for a diesel head it will fit the same mount no mods needed and will swing a 12x6 3blade of course a 4o
might require a little wt balance in the rear. the Body is ply (most of it) and very strongly built, the landing gear bolts onto a very strong substucture, Their AT6 is fantastic and can always wear the OS32 or a 40 or 46, since the 46s about the same wt as a 40 glow diesel runs twice as far on a tank as glow (have an 8 oz hayes tank in it and tons of torque at lower revs a 40 diesel will swing the prop of a 60 and the 25 in there equiv to at least a 35 glow the AT 6 awsome and also built like an Abrams tank. These should have been offered as glow or diesel from day one. not the flimsy electrics of the past For the glow guys it would be a winner . A 4 strk 52 could be a wt and balance problem martin |

Hey guys just fitted a Saito FA 56, sounds awesome fly's great this plane was meant for anythink other than electric. I am spinning a 12/6 Prop, and installed a 12oz tank. haven't timed it yet, but when running in it took for ever to run the tank out. Flies to scale am very impressed with attention to detail

Basman,
Did you do much reinforcing of the engine mount area/firewall? I am curious because I was thinking of putting one of these on floats, but based on the E-cub I think non-electric may be better for float flying. The E-cub I had ended up with a lot of water spray entering the cooling holes...ending up with damp electronics. |

Looks good basman!

RE: E flight Beaver DCH-2 conversion
Had it flying with the carbie on the inside of the fire wall, but a landing in a creek popped the fire wall out so I installed a new fire wall 28mm back and reinforced the sides with some blocks. The perimiter of the original fire was glued back in, this gave me something to fix the cowl to on the original bolts, and reinforced the front. It also made easy access to the glow plug, as this was not easy to get too before. Will throw some pics when I get a change.
