The plans say standard servos......??????????????
Guys this is a big airplane!......What servos do I use???
Is H-9 going to replace all my s*** if I crash???
I am so sick.... :(

I used HS 425's all around on my 1/4 scale clipped Cub. Worked
fine for a Sunday poke around plane. If your planning to crank
around non scale then I would go 605's . My Pica Aeronca Sedan
has 425's for the back-end but a HS 705 for the ailerons because
it has the one servo for both.

RREISS...Hi,
I plan on nothing but touch and goes ..with an occational loop or what-ever....
I despise hover....Like to watch it...but could care less about doing it.......
I want to fly her scale like my PT-19.
Any suggestions...???

Since I don't have this plane, I'd suggest you look at some of the previous post on the plane.
Are you going with the 23 gas or 180 size FS ? I looked at the
listing on Horizons site and it looks like std. servos with pull/pull
on the rudder and single rod on elevators. If the ailerons are
no more than 20-24" the HS-425's should work fine.

Ya know we are going to have several opinions.........Thats what I love about RCU....There is so much talent out there......
I am going with standard servos.This has really turned into an expensive airplane.
I just have to keep my "hot shot buddies off of it"

Talk about timimg! I am just a phone call away from ordering one. I had planned on using 605's on the ailerons and elevator and a FMA heavy duty on the rudder....sound ok? For power I have a Wolf Stinger which is a 1.5 (23cc) which will swing a 18/8. I can run this engine on either glow or gas (if I want to put a C&H ignition). At this point I'm leaning towards glow as I keep my planes in my shop and would be worried about the gas smell/residue.

This airplane is beautiful...down to the cockpit........It is an apology for the h-9 for the crap they have given us on the 232.

Standard on throttle, 615 MG on the rudder and 605's on the rest of it. Spinner? Frustrated with that! :confused:

Well I did it! Should be here is a couple of days. Has anybody flown theirs yet and if so, how did it handle? I will be putiing the Wolf Stinger 1.5 (23cc) in it so it should have enough power. I was intending to with a more modern airplane such as a Extra etc. but I not really into the 3D thing, more of the classic style of aerobatics. I think this one will fit the bill perfectly. Now, how do I get that wing in my Mountaineer!!! :D

Well if you think the model is gorgeous you should see the real one!!! I know the owner and have seen him fly it, or should I say wring it out. Take off, straight up and then a split 'S' and back over the runway!!! The full size is incredible and a scale of 1 to 10 it's a 12! He sure does have a lot of fun with it, but heck the guy owns around 14 full size planes, like can you say very wealthy???

i have the tcraft and i used JR system with std 537 servos and they do well .

The spinner problem is a real b***h! I contacted the Tru-Turn people for their help as I need to mount an 18" prop on the RCS 140 gasser. The hub area is so large the the cutouts are, by necessity, almost too large for this size spinner. They recommended going up to a 2-1/2 " size instead of the 2-1/4 in. which comes with the plane. Those folks cut one for me to fit the Windsor Classic 18 X 6 prop. This slightly larger diameter spinner looks very good on the plane, but is very minimum for a prop of this size. A 16 inch prop is noticeably smaller in its hub dimensions than the 18 inch if you can use one.

You guys need to check out the inside of your manual that comes with the 'plane. It says to use JR 8101 servos. That is a 90 oz. servo. That says it all. This is a big plane and "standard" 45 oz. servos won't cut it long term. My two cents, Pete

FWIW, I have standard size ball-bearing capped Futaba 148 servos at 42 oz./inch on the ailerons and elevators (one for each control surface) on my 15lbs Sig Clipped Wing Cub and have had no problems after roughly 25 flights. On the rudder, I used a 65 oz./inch Hitec 545BB servo and the darn thing knife edges very well!

The manual says standard SIZE servos..not standard torque...they do not say anything about torque recommendations. Of course they recommend 8101's and a JR 10X radio. Now all we gotta do is find a translator.

Pat McCurry mentions in his Giant Scale column ( RCReport Sept. '02 ) how most people tend to use more powerful servos than they need. He is using a single less than 80oz. servo on his 45lb. ME109's elevator. Nuff said! :)

On the control surfaces, I used Futaba 9202's on mine (55 oz.). No problems as of yet. This model is a real *****cat. What a great flyer !! I have my high-performance aircraft, but decided to fly this one at a more scale pace, so I figured the 9202's would suffice.

When I was assembling the model (last winter), I wanted to add more scale features to it. After digging around, I was able to contact the owner of the real aircraft (Harold Hanson). I talked to Harold many times last winter. Harold was nice enough to take pics of his plane, blow them up into 8x10's and mail them to me. He also supplied me with much written documentation to add more scale authentication.

I have created about 100 semi-scale parts/features to my model (complete interior roll cage. landing gear springs, three-point harness, gas cap and gas cap nacelle, venturi tube, wing fillets (Harold INSISTED I added these fillets), rudder trim wheel, interior door handles, etc.

Yup that sounds like something that Harold would ask you to do. The real plane is a thing of beauty and watching Harold fly around the field is enough to make anyone drool all over them selves. I was really happy for him when hanger 9 brought out this plane as his is truly one that needed to be modeled. He has an L-4 that is without a doubt the cleanest and prettiest restoration of a plane I have ever seen. It's done in Canadian markings and next year I plan on doing an L-4 1/4 scale and using his as a model. Now I have to do is run him down after the first of the year so I can take a gazillion pictures.

I'm finishing up my Taylorcraft now. I used 605's on the ailerons and rudder. Then two 425's on each elevator half. I'm trying to get the G38 to work but I'm having the same trouble with the spinner on the 18x10 prop. Does any one know if like bolly or mejlick has a small hub? Thats alot of cash for just a try and see.

Any one have a smoke system on their plane?

I picked up an aluminum 3" Tru-turn for a 16/10 and it looks great. I have the standard servos except I used an extra one to split the elevator halves. I moved the throttle servo up under the dash and I have a TME smoke system with an 18oz tank. It's ready to fly, but our weather hasn't cooporated yet. I have a g-23 in mine.

H-9 always lists JR equipment since they are both distributed by Horizon.

I have the 73" Cap and the PT-19. I have Hitec 625 mg on the each of surfaces (yes, 5 servos for control surfaces) with 425's on the throttles. Seems to be more than enough.

I have mine set up with 2 Hitec digital 625's on the alerions, 2 elevator servos (605's), with CF pushrods, rudder set up with pull pull (605), on throttle and smoke valve JR 537's.

I originally had a ST3250 in the front end, but found it was WAY over powered! :D But it had some problems so I took it out and put in an MDS 148, changed the landing gear out in favor of T6 aluminum one and foam tires. That droped the weight down to 13 LBS, includung the smoke system! :p
