Gp Lancair
I've always wanted a Lancair IV but unfortunately there are no kits available. I was thinking would it be possible to convert a GP lancair es to a IV. I e-mailed lancair and they told me the only difference between the two is the ES has a larger wing and tail. The fuse's are identical. My question is has anyone tried this conversion and to anyone that owns one of these planes would it structurally be possible?

Lancair IV
I thought of the same thing. The scale retracts would definately be a problem, but you could fake it and use conventional main retracts.
The biggest problem would be the wing loading. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but you can figure it out from Lancair's website. The scale wing would be something like 500 square inches. On a 9 - 10 pound airplane that's about 45 oz./sq.ft. Nasty! Jim |
