I've always wanted a Lancair IV but unfortunately there are no kits available. I was thinking would it be possible to convert a GP lancair es to a IV. I e-mailed lancair and they told me the only difference between the two is the ES has a larger wing and tail. The fuse's are identical. My question is has anyone tried this conversion and to anyone that owns one of these planes would it structurally be possible?

I thought of the same thing. The scale retracts would definately be a problem, but you could fake it and use conventional main retracts.

The biggest problem would be the wing loading. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but you can figure it out from Lancair's website. The scale wing would be something like 500 square inches. On a 9 - 10 pound airplane that's about 45 oz./sq.ft.

Nasty!
