Hanger 9 F6F Hellcat 60

Hi, just wanted to share some photos of the Hanger 9 F6F Hellcat 60 ARF that I'm building. On this air plane I'm installing a Zenoah G20 EI engine, I will also be installing a Fiber optic kill switch system. The Rx will have a independent battery from the engine. Hanger 9 done a great job with this plane. Would recommend highly to all. Please fell free to comment on any thing you see that will not work, new to RC Airplanes but like to build models.

Thanks for your help.

Firewall change. Used 30 min Epoxy, fiberglass and blocking to help strengthen. Had a RCU member leave me a post about his plane crash. Thanks a lot to all the members on RCU for their help and support.

These are beautiful planes in the air and well suited for the G20. I had the oportunity to fly one that a newer flyer had bought with the same set up. The plane did everything I would expect from a WW II fighter and then some. Unfortunately the plane was lost when the owner got to slow in a turn and it tip stalled. His inexperience led to the subsequent "death spiral" that ultimately totaled the plane. He regrets getting ito a plane like this before he was ready.

Sooo many beautiful warbirds are lost to the "not quite ready " pilots. I've been flying about 3yrs & I'm not quite ready yet!! I know I need to "try it " but ,I've seen the really good pilots in our club crash them. So, I'll wait.

I reviewed this plane/engine combo for RCU Magazine and it's a winning combination!

That said, I hope you're ready for it. It's not difficult, it flies like any Sport Flier. So as long as you can handle anything above an intermediate trainer youm should be good to go.

Hi, No I'm not ready for it ,but it's almost ready for me. Going together great Hanger 9 done a very good job and easy to follow Instructions. So far the only thing I found is that the manual said in step 20, is to use #2x3/4 screws for the control horn on the Ailerons, but all they supplyed was 5/8" or 1" screws. Uesd 1", the 1" in the manual is just a typo error. Right now working on the installing the Stabilizer and Elevators. Thanks for all the resent comments posted in the beginners forums, I posted about the G20 engine. Looking forward to learning how to fly this great plane. When the weather pro-mits I would like to start flying on one of my trainers with a friend I met at a LHS. Here is what it looks like here right now.

I can't tell for sure, but if your ignition module is wraped up tight in foam etc. that's a big NO,NO!

Those Zenoah modules get hot fast and use one side or the other as a heat sink that should be to free air.

Wraping one up is a sure way off burning it out![:@]

Don't worry about flying this plane. It is super easy to fly and goes and stays where you point it. One of the smoothest flying planes I own. It floats in on landings so beautifully. The only change I made was going to Lado electric retracts. A really nice upgrade.

Hope this helps!

Last weekend, my Hangar 9 F6F Hellcat crashed when the firewall separated from the fuselage. Once the wreckage was recovered, to my surprise, the firewall was hot glued to the fuselage instead of being epoxy. Therefore, you may want to reinforce the firewall to the fuselage. I must agree, that the Zenoah G20ie is the right engine for this airplane. The Hangar 9 F6F Hellcat is a smooth flying airplane. I really enjoyed flying it.

Hi all, I have a question. Here is a photo of the Throttle rod I'm planing to use. Just wanted to know if this type of rod will work, it's was all I could find at my LHS.

Great Planes Flexible Accu-Glide Nylon Pushrod (914mm)

Thanks

No!!!! The throttle linkage you show would not be a good idea as you have metal to metal contact (metal rod, metal arm on carb) which would eat you alive with glitching. I always use Sulivan Nyrod with the included 2-56 1" long piece of threaded rod with a plastic ball link connector screwed on and of course, the matching ball on the throttle arm of the carb. This way, it is only plastic on metal contact which is safe. I am sure you have read up on the many other safeguards of a gasser haven't you?????

I have a Zenoah G20ei sitting around and was thinking of getting the H9 Hellcat. How does it fly with the G20EI?

A little better than scale and in my opinion... AWSOME! I had a blast with the one I got to fly.

Have you read about 2.4 Ghz? It is imune to the traditional metal to metal RF interferance. Look at the pictures in post 20 and you will see his 2.4 Ghz receiver.

Do you search on here for the H9 Hellcat. There are been some guys reporting h-stab failures. Most H9 Hellcat owners that I have heard from recommend beefing up the h-stab.
