trainer without dihedral
Hi - does anyone know of a trainer of at least 70" wingspan without dihedral? I want the wings to be straight and semetrical
thank you |

By 'symmetrical' do you mean a symmetrical airfoil? If yes, I do not think there are any ARF trainers like that.
Since dihedral is part of the standard 'trainer' design, you'll have to modify any ARF trainer to remove it. The Global Right Flyer 60H, if still available, has very little dihedral so it would be easy to flatten. The first picture is a Right Flyer assembled per instructions. If you're in a position to build a kit, the Great Planes PT-60 is easy to build with a flat wing, second picture. |

No longer a trainer in that config.

I am not a trainer anymore, but I want a trainer airplane for the project that I am doing

RE: trainer without dihedral
The World Models Sky Raider Mach-1 has a semi-symetrical airfoil and less dihedral than most trainers. It makes a great intermediate airplane capable of nice aerobatics but still stable and forgiving enough for a beginner with good instruction.
The Hobbico Avistar is similar. It sounds to me like you are describing more of a Stik type airplane though. Also, dihedral isn't necessarily a bad thing but it seems to be a dirty word for some people. Just remember that the designer put it there for a reason and taking it out may gain one thing only to give up something else. |

This might do...http://www.eastrc.org/shop.cgi/page=...41374144.32553 What do you actually want to do with it? |
RE: trainer without dihedral
The Hobbistar 60 can be assembled without dihedral.

RE: trainer without dihedral
I initially thought of a stick, whether an ultra stic, ugly stic or whatever. But, also, if this is a build up project, I would like to throw out the idea of a Kadet Senior. I've got two with the dihedral removed, one is a tail dragger while the other is a tri-gear. Both fly great with .91 4-strokes on them. I've got a build thread on the build up of one of them and some video of the other flying. Here are the links to each of them. I love to fly each plane.
Here's the link to the build up: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7589439/tm.htm Here's the vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE7nbyg-gh0 There's also a video of a few laps around our field on this plane here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcbsT...eature=channel |

RE: trainer without dihedral
Tower sells the Megatech Capitol Flyer ARF that has two different dihedral braces. One for assembling it with dihedral and the other with a flat wing. It can be switched back and forth. It is also a semi-symmetrical airfoil. It just has a 61" wing, but the one in use at our club flys very well.

I wanted a sporty trainer option and turned my Superstar? 40 into a wild trainer for those who wanted to step up without getting something elso.
I made the plane a taildragger, removed dihedral, and added dual aileron servos. |
RE: trainer without dihedral
!!WOW - that's a sick looking super star - I have one and I think I will do the same thing :-)

RE: trainer without dihedral
My dad sells these.[link=http://www.texasrcplanes.com/explorer.html]Explorer[/link] These have a straight wing and fly great. Or the Avistar is a close second, but costs a lot more
