good third
First, would a Yak 54 be a good third plane? Second, if so, does anybody know of any .40 to .60 size Yak 54s?
|
RE: good third
All depends on your skill level. My second plane was a 3D Acromaster. Some people would classify a 3D plane as their 5th or 6th plane. If you really want to progress your flying skill, go 3D. A Yak will serve you well. :)

RE: good third
A Yak is a great flyer if set up properly.
If you have a multi-rate TX, just set up for lower throw rates for landings, and you'll be fine. |
RE: good third
What is the best .40 size Yak and best .60 size Yak?
|
RE: good third
Bigger is better.
A larger plane will also tend to hold your interest longer. If you can, even consider a gasoline engine 70-80" plane. e.g. something in a 26-36cc sized gasser. The up front cost for the engine will be recovered in short order by the savings on fuel, while those planes are small enough to use standard higher torque servos. You'll also love not having to run to an LHS or on-line supplier for fuel... the engine has a built in pump, so once broken in and set, you forget about it... and deadsticks, etc. Good gas engines can now be had for about the cost of a two or four stroke engine. |
RE: good third
the problem with big is not enough money and I can hardly fit a .40 size plane in the back seat of dads pickup or the trunk of moms car.

RE: good third
Then go as large as you can afford.
Try to go for what you can tolerate even if you cannot put everything together at once. |
RE: good third
I have a Sig Something Extra on the bench right now. Ill see how that works out.

RE: good third
rc airplane nut... i think you're ready for a yak. as someone said, the bigger the better. but also, there are two very different types of yaks now, the 3D and the scale type. The scale plane will be more robust but the wing loading will be higher. the 3D will be easier to fly but require care since it will be built very light.
i've flown the smallest of yaks, a 15 size from hirobo and let me say... with an ASP30 fourstroke, it flew like an plucked chicken. i'd go with a good light 3D capable yak. |
RE: good third
Thanks, for all the advise. I will probably be getting either a Seagull Yak 54 or Nitro planes Yak 54. I like their price tags better than most.:D
