The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
I'm having a 1990's model1/4 scale 7.5LB Great Planes Spacewalker re-monokoated and haven't decided on what would be a good 2 stroker for it, I used to be fond of Super tigre engines until I bought my first OS engine 1.20AX needless to say the engine is awesome & easy to breakin...I'm trying to buy a good quality engine with decent power, but also one that is with in my budget, I've looked at OS 95AX, GMS 1.20,Super tigre G90's, and towerhobbies 75. 91fx. anyone ever have a spacewalker if so what size engine did you run on it?
Thanks, |

I still fly mine but with a TT .91 4-stroke. Only engine I have ever had on it.

RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
yeah I've been told .91 4strokes are perfect for this plane, but I perfer 2 strokes.

RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
Sheesh you guys have got it easy i reckon.looking for same so i can stretch the legs on a 220 saito:)
|
RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
220 saito!!! might be a bit overpowered?
|
RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
I have a Magnum 1.60 twin in my Sig 1/4 scale Spacewalker.
A match made in heaven ! :D |
RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
WOW!!! is it very nose heavy??? seems like a hoss! I do like have my planes over powered, thought about an 1.20AX too....I like unlimited vertical :D

RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
thats very cool..nice paint job!

RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?

I have a Saito 90 twin cylinder in mine. The cylinders stick though both sides of the cowl. Looks very scale like.

RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
Thats a nice looking airplane I do like how the engine fits too

RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
may as well add my 2 cents..I am building a spacewalker2 and its going to be powered with my satio 150.I really am looking foward to it.

RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
You'll shake the fuselage apart with the 150

RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
I don't think so, Bob.
He's building a Sig SW. The fuselage builds into a strong structure. |

OK Tom,
I thought it was the GP model he was talking about. A buddy of mine built the big Sig Spacewalker and put the OS Pegasus 320 4 cylinder in it. See the pics! |
RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
That 4cyl is absolutely beautiful.
Thunder Tiger just came out with a 1.30 four stroke. |
RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
It is beautiful. He later installed baffling to direct the air to the cylinders like on a full scale plane.
|
RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
Bob: I'll bet that motor sounds great, too !!! Your friend did a nice job, splitting the cowl.
Until recently, I was considering building the Sig 1/3 Spacewalker, and modifying it to be powered with a Saito 450. I found another project for the 450, but I may still build the big SW. If I do, I'll power it with my Saito 300 twin. |
RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
I had a 300 Twin. Sounded like a Harley with hot cams when it was idleing. Awesome!
The 4 banger he has is smooth and quiet. |
RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
Bob that 90 twin looks good, which kit is it?
|
RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
Fart,
It's the Great Planes ARF. Very relaxing flyer! Bob |
RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
it's been awhile since anyone including me posted.I finished my spacewalker and am concerned that my satio 150 might be a tad small as the plane dry weight is just a bitover 12 pounds.so with fuel it will come in near 13 pounds.this is a sig spacewalker 2..Is this bird going fly well or it be a struggle lugging it around.not expecting a bigtime aerobatic fler but dont want it to fly around like a model a either.should I be going with a gas engine??really discouraged as I thought I would be under 12 with fuel..

RE: The perfect engine for a 1/4 scale Spacewalker?
I am flying an Aero 28cc Gas in my Seagull 1/4 scale Space Walker with Jtech style wrap-around muffler. Didn't need any nose weight. She will do any manuver I put Her thru. Even hang on the Prop. The Aero 28cc is one heck of a motor and cheaper than the Zenoah 26cc. It hasa rear carb and weigh's less to.Didn't even have to cut the Cowl except the bottom for the exuast pipe's.Tony.
